They just let me register denic.de, the .de manger.

From denic.de:
Error: com.de is not a valid .de domain.
Hint: There are certain terms that cannot be registered as domains. These include the abbreviated geographic designations used on road-vehicle number plates in Germany and the endings used by Top Level Domains.

Network Solutions loses many a cool point in my book, I liked them because of cheap .de regs. However, even when calling customer service, they told me that "Yes" my order for net.de and org.de will be filled within 24 hours.

Sure... Basic rules says that TLD:s are not allowed before ccTLD:s You should have a talk with your registrar, quite stupid of them to promise you anything that is impossible to deliver.

Take some time and study the regulations, .de = ccTLD and they all have the same rules to follow. The registration-rules on ccTLD:s says clearly that .com .net .org and so on is not allowed before the ccTLD.

Sorry to spoil your hopes...
