As we all know, to register a .cn domain only cost 0.12 USD.

So what if... one day perhaps all the registrars decide to also price the .com at 0.12 USD

Free push
Renewal also 0.12 USD
No terms and conditions
No need to buy hosting

So then, will we lose our jobs as a domainer, as there is an oversupply of domains in the market ?

Nope, there would be an oversupply of absolutely crap domains, the premium ones would probably retain there value.

Id still prefer it to be at the prices theyre at now, i think theyve got it spot on.

The cost of a .com for Verisign is said to be about $0.14. At $6 they are making a good margin :)
My understanding is that the CN NIC is selling more or less at cost as a temporary promotion.

With more than 60 million domains registered under .com there already is an oversupply of crap names. While the quantity of possible domains is virtually infinite, the quantity of good domains is not infinite. Premium names will always increase in value, crap will usually remain crap.

The registration fee will just have an impact on the level playing field ie. more wannabe domainers entering the market.

Never happen. Infact, if dot com prices were to drop, my portfolio would increase to 10,000+ domains. I would be able to hold more for less. Parking would be incredibly profitable, because obviously you only need to make 1cent per month to maintain your domains.

Also, consider - even with com prices so cheap - the value of premium domains still exists. The secondary market does not consider the pricing of registration/renewal on .coms - if a .com were to be $4 instead of $6+ you wouldnt see a change in pricing for premium domains.

Now, consider higher registration/renewal costs? Example - .pro TLD

If it costs you so much to register a domain name, that no one wants to register any, and all the premium domains still exist - they have less value.

So - I think its exactly the opposite of your conclusion, in this case.

http://www.ename.com/ might be the english language version of the site (I cant read chinese either), except it appears that .cn reg is 10 bucks there.

No, this wouldn't affect the market in any way, and most (all?) registrars would go out of business, causing major problems.

I'd rather things stay the way they are. :)

Mark Dreams of the Days when .com's were 140$+/- ....

Wonders if that would hurt or Hinder now a days ....

It'd probably hurt - Because the "Corporate World" is just now waking up ;) They have endless cash to keep Us Down :o

.com couldn't be 0.12 because ICANN charges $6 just to register it, no matter what registrar it is. That fee is going to be raised later this year.

Darn, I got all excited when I saw the title of this thread :bah:

Whether it'd be that good, I don't know - but I'd already say the prices aren't that bad at the moment - compared to UK registrars anyway (UK registrars are charging approx $22 per year for a .com/.net/.org!)

thats not a good news for me cuz $6 looks too much for me for a domain name and if the fee is raised,i think i won`t be able to buy anymore domains after the increase in fee.

More domains of less value make domains market lower prices.

$6 is the price the registry (Verisign) will charge registrars for .com.
On top of that ICANN will levy a $0.25 (now $0.22) fee.
So the actual cost of a .com to a registrar is $6.25. The difference between their retail price and the $6.25 is their profit margin (minus operating costs and various processing fees of course).

well i know of registrars which give reseller account for 5.99$ per domain (.com)
