Hello,
If you had to choose between .net and .co for your company domain name, which one would you choose?
and why?

In your opinion (for example) Miami-BoatRental.com is better than MiamiBoatRental.net?

I think that is a bad example because the hyphen placement doesn't make sense.

What about one like Used-Cars.com vs UsedCars.net, or San-Diego.com vs SanDiego.net? That is more of a fair comparison.

If the MiamiBoatRentals.com is taken, and you need to choose one of them.

I would never want a domain with an awkwardly placed hyphen.

If someone asked .com
If you weren't forced to be 3 letters....what would your first choice have been?
.c
.co
.net
.io
.org
?

nothing says I'm old and out of touch like a .net domain

nothing says I want to be different but afraid to innovate or I want to be the same but cant afford to like a .co domain

In fact, one of the original concerns of Juan Diego Calle was that domainers would buy .co domains hoping to capitalize on .com typos. Maybe I'm old, but it's still relevant.

LOL why do you assume that old means out of touch?

I know too many young and hip people who don't have a clue ;)

It's Simple
Companies want themselves to be recognized as companies.
.co gives a sense of company whereas .net does not. but it will take some time to takeover .net.
But one day .co is goona be prefered over .net

For all intents and purposes .co is just a typo of .com.

dot com = USD
dot net = GBP
dot org = EUR
dot co = BTC
dot io = ETH

I think .co is best if available. its looks like .com and also short. For SEO, both domains are good.

This brief explanation only raises more questions.

With the exception of very short names, very good keyword/s or domain hacks, I think it's more like:

COM -> BTC
ORG -> ETH
ccTLDs -> XRP
Everything else (including .CO outside Colombia) -> Flappy Coin

.NET because I like domains in thisTLD.

The new startups and companies prefer .co for their primary domain while a good keyword or one-word will always be great in NET.

I think .net (network) is totally old school and outdated. I see a .net website and I know I'm not visiting a quality site that cares about such things as branding.

.com is king, but .co is definitely my second pick for some projects and .io for others.

.co says your young, hip, and an emerging entrepreneur, not some old gas bag with a .net extension. Makes my stomach hurt just thinking about the sad .nets.

Imho.

Don't tell this to IETF people writing new Internet protocols, so that you can enjoy posting here. Indeed, they don't do it for branding purposes and RFCs are still in plaintext. You could be a bit more subtle about what you think is quality or not.

But yes, .net is less popular nowadays.

Didn't mean to ruffle anyone's feathers. I have absolutely no agenda, whatsoever at all. Just reporting findings from research and interviews of online business owners. its my job. P.S. I own 1 .net and 3 .co domains. Again, no agenda. Just reporting from the field.

Depend on the name, if single word or dictionary word, I prefer .net

if Brandable name .co might sound a bit better
