Who cares if the .ws, .info, .biz and OH DEAR GOD THE CHINESE aren't taken.

This is an appraisal on gometro.co.uk. You gotta think locally and not globally here!

I see a few possibilities, mainly the free newspaper you find fluttering around London tube stations called "Metro" and Manchester's MetroLink Tram service, which is in effect the city's train network.

It's value is dependant on how you market it, or develop it.

I don't see it having a huge value as a domain to resell though, £50 would be my best guess, although with a bit of development, you could see prices going substantially higher.

lol thanks for the info. I would probably be best holding on to it as Nominet charge a £35 (about $70) transfering fee for .uk domains and at those prices wouldn't make much of a return on it

The charge is now only £10 for a single name and £22 (i think) for bulk changes.
