Seems defensive no matter how you slice it. Great for the seller though :imho:

Why defensive? .co and .com seem completely unrelated.

I like this one. Someone bought their last name.
Then Bark & Co came along.

Guy bought his last name in .pw

That's a $20K switch I'd be willing to make.

It's not defensive. They own Barkbox.com (a much better name)

They should have regged barkand.co imho - 10% finders fee if anyone profits from that and it looks like someone else has Barkbox.co and that form is "legitimate development" imho. It's UDRP safe.. lol.

I think it might be more of a .co tie in personally when you start to see who's involved. Cheaper than a GoDaddy ad.. great for Mr Bark and gets all the speculators back going again...

They could have bought bark.com with some of that 5 mil. Now they will learn the hard way. I'm quite sure that Overstock.com spent much more than 5 mil to promote o.co and it was an epic fail.

I don't think so... considering the fact, that 95% of the world population doesn't know how to spell overstock.
If you know this, it is clear then that promoting overstock.com internationally is a waste of money.

It seems that especially some american domainers need longer to grasp it. They seem still to consider only the american consumers to have a wallet ;) That's why they are so surprised by the success of .co

Say what?

That's the whole point...they do NOT promote o.co after they're failed experiment. It's now business as usual with Overstock.com which people seem to have no problem with.

And btw, o.co redirects to overstock.com. I'm not sure if it was always that way...

They DO promote O.co internationally, they DONT promote Overstock.com internationally.

โ€œClearly non-English speaking Internet users have an easier time typing O.co than Overstock.com,โ€ says Ed White, director of international business at Overstock.com. โ€œThe global branding benefits are evident in the brandโ€™s simplicity.โ€

Although the company reverted its brand back to Overstock.com in the U.S., it maintains O.co for its international business.

Lets not leave this little tidbit out...

โ€œThe O.co brand has many advantages, but it is not written in stone,โ€ explains White. โ€œIt could always change. It may require a rebrand in the future, and that rebrand could even be different in each country.โ€

Anyhow, it's the "O" that matters for international users. The .co factor only exists because the .com isn't available ;)

"Wantable.com Purchased for 47k is Being Forwarded to Wantable.co"

Article on TheDomains this morning. I really hope this isn't another fluffing attempt by .CO in order to stir up interest.

The buyer responded on that blog post -

What we learned: the .co is confusing to a small segment of consumers, it is also more likely to get marked as spam by Facebook and email providers. We experienced each of these issues first hand and while none were insurmountable it was clearly an issue.

Why we purchased the .com and what we plan on doing: we purchased the domain this past week, a full 3 months before our lease expires because we feel by owning the .com we can rebrand as โ€œWantableโ€ and not need to include the .com or .co extension. Expect to see our website running on the .com extension within the month.

While Iโ€™m a big fan of the .co movement, and currently advise a few .co companies, I feel if given the option a company should operate under the .com before the .co extension of their brand.

I hope this adds some color to our reasoning and the information is useful to those interested.

This is clearly not a "huge success" story for .CO as the article frames it.

It is another example of a buyer moving to the superior .COM when they are able to, after dealing with consumer confusion.

I found several single word /co/uk domain names, are they worth anything?

i found several single word co uk domains and was wondering if they are worth anything?

What does it have to do with the .co thread ?
If you find single words available in .co.uk they must be obscure keywords with no practical use.
