Google search algorithm change diminishes the value of Keyword domains, affects .CO extension

One aspect that I have not yet seen mentioned on this thread is the effect of Google's demotion of exact match keyword domains, which now have much less weight in search results relative to brandable domains according to Matt Cutts, who therefore recommends people to buy domains without keywords in them.

This algorithm tweak truly changes the domainer game in general (think about it, Google is officially saying that just having a keyword in the domain name will not further your search engine results positions unless you develop the website!) and particularly affects .CO domains, which heavily relied on premium keywords to offset the less desirable extension and make a significant sale (as opposed to a brandable domain name which requires development, something for which .co is less preferred).

Looks like now .CO will have to rely even more on defensive purchases by owners of developed (yet not trademarked) .com domain owners, which in my opinion reinforces .CO's reputation as the extension of choice for domain name squatters.

They have a better chance at winning the Mega Millions before selling for that price.

I guess we all dream sometimes. ;)

Agreed. And Kim's last name is Dot Com... I think .CO can be considered an insult to a man like that. :D

If the claim, that traffic bled to the .co domain is true, imagine how much traffic bled to the .com!

For that price, Kim can get a great .com instead.

This is nothing new, really. How many people have their names listed for ridiculous prices? Many. :snaphappy:

So again I guess these were just a bunch of blips or an exception the multiple rule.

childcare.co - $14,000
forex.co - $40,000
mirror.co - $11,000
easy.co - $10,500
fx.co - $50,000
sugar.co - $30,000
cinema.co - $13,068
farm.co - $8000
engineering.co - $13,000
aff.co - $7000

:)
Who sold and who bought? Is there any historical pattern there?

Regards...jmcc

Hi

"Fooled by randomness" By Nassim Taleb would be a good read for some domainers , many just look at some sales and think that they could earn the same by reg in the same extension , thats not true , one should look at the extension as a whole , if some domains are sold because they are really good or because there is some demand doesn't mean the rest of the extension will be sold as well , most likely most domains expire worthless , this is not necessarily applies just to .co but it is validate for any extension including .com as well , not because some .com domains were sold for 6 figures or more any .com domain will be sold , look at the whole picture there are maybe 100 Million + .com domains worth nothing and will never be sold , one should look at the percentages and the odds . I found it funny when they say that x domainer is great he sells dozens of domains every month and they forgot that he owns 3K + domains !

Something fishy going on here perhaps? I'd be surprised if this was a legitimate offer, then again nothing in domaining surprises me.

Of course anything is possible, but we, as domainers, are used to crazy sales and see them all the time. Just a couple of hours ago I learned that sjcco.com, a typical name whose owner would be made fun of in the appraisal section, sold at Afternic for close to $11k.
