I'm surprised there aren't more posts this week. While I suppose we can't discuss specific expired names quite yet, did anyone manage to snag some they wanted?

I picked up about 5-6 - French, German, and English. Got an offer on a name last week which I turned down, but I had another sale (a .DE) this week, so I feel ok about the investment. The coupon code saved me almost 60 bucks.

There were a few in that high sales list I had my eye on, but I was priced out once they started to skyrocket. I'm definitely surprised that the figures were as high as $2500. Wouldn't have predicted that.

Is it Gdaddy's coupon code ?
Any good dotCo renewal/transfer deal around ?
Thanks for the input.

Not that big news. If you checked 45 and he only renewed 4, that shows very little confidence in the extension.

How many did you check? Posting 4 renewed and not saying how many you checked, means pretty much nothing.
I checked 10 and got 4 renewed. Even if rick renewed only 4 out of 90, he did renew his nnn.co's. Just remember the way he was criticizing them. All the dropping nnn.co domains are being purchased and that too at decent prices. I believe in the story as dot co is the only extension after dot com and dot net that is accepted by the chinese. The chinese are the biggest population in the world and there people are recognized by numbers and not by names. This is the reason why even nnnnn.com or nnnn.net are selling for good prices.

Thought I'd post here just to get some feedback and insight on what you all think about this domain I received an offer on today. Hopefully this post belongs here, as it relates to discussion of .co:

AminoAcids *dot* co

90,500 exact monthly searches, category-leading keyword, correlates well with .co "brand", and part of a $27 billion dollar industry (2011)

Any indications of a potential sales figure would be highly appreciated

This domain is worth reg fee at best.

Any sale exceeding that amount is a good sale. Selling a .CO is very much like landing an airplane. Any landing you can walk away from is a good landing, and any .CO sale is a good sale. May you have many awakenings along your path and find happiness always. IMHO.

4 out of 90 domains is not good. He probably renewed some and dropped some - maybe he has a specific reason for hanging onto those, or they're ones he's gotten offers on before.

I'd be interested in seeing some more data about the popularity of .CO in China, if it's true. I've done some searches, but of course, not knowing Chinese, it's impossible to tell. I know a few Chinese investors speculated heavily in .CO (because they've emailed and try to sell me their names), but I'm not sure how many NNN are actually being used at this point.

I can see repeated numbers, anything with an 8 in it, and other numbers that have significance being in demand, but for seemingly random NNNs, it seems like you could be waiting around a LONG TIME for a sale.

Maybe those were the ones he missed when unchecking autorenew? My gut is telling me that he did not intentionally renew these names. I think the common wisdom now is that .CO is toast. IMHO.

My hunch tells me you also would have claimed that "hyphenated .DE names" aren't worth reg fee and should be dropped immediately - in which case I would be out a 1000 โ‚ฌ sale this week.

There are those who share your opinion, which you're completely entitled to hold, but you're clearly biased, and I don't think anyone considers you an arbiter of what the rest of the domain investment community is doing.

You've made yourself abundantly clear: you feel .CO is worthless.

It's important to hear both sides of every story, and I appreciate that you've felt the need to repeat yours dozens, if not hundreds, of times.

It doesn't matter how many times you ad "IMO" to a post - we know that's your opinion. I don't know why concentrate all of your time in a thread in which you have no vested interest, though. Let the rest of us drop, research, invest in, and sell the names that WE see value in. Unless you are fluent in every language and have published sales in every ccTLD, you can't possibly speak for the entire domaining community. Do you think statisticians would say 2 years (yes, I know .CO is technically older than that, I'm talking about this time around) is a long enough time to establish a trend? You usually require a much bigger data set.

Aged .coms are the most liquid investment, but there are sales that defy expectations and "common wisdom" every day.

I know. I just like to do that. :imho:

My abundance is only for those that frequent this thread. (^^ I agree ^^) My posts are genuinely intended for first-time readers which is a large group.

Actually the development trend in a new TLD shows up within six months or so of the start of Landrush. Within the following twelve months, the abandonment trend (half-finished websites that will never be finished) appears. Now while COinternet and Sedo may trumpet sales and claim that .co sells well, the real metric of a TLD is development. It is the virtuous circle - development creates usage and drives development. With development, ordinary people (not domainers) learn about the TLD and become used to seeing websites on that TLD. The url shorteners are invisible to most people so they don't really count. It may take five years for a new TLD to establish itself but the trends for Dead Zone TLDs can appear early. While I am not writing .co ccTLD off just yet, the next few months are going to be very important. If the wrong type of domains (developed/brand protection/small business) start dropping in large numbers, it will not be good for .co ccTLD. However if the drops are confined to PPC parked and keyword domains, it might not be so bad. For investors in low quality .co domains, it might be a case of hoping for the best while preparing for the worst.

Regards...jmcc

Well first of all any new asset (tld) takes time to be fully absorbed in the market and Off course the returns will always be proportional to risk taken.
Just have a look on the nnn.co name owners. You will find most of them from china. Till the time the investors are not able to hold on to their names and are willing to sell them for cheap and hence are not able to create a shortage of value names in the market, the extension will face some trouble.
The recent sales of nnn.co names including 295.co, 588.co etc were made by the chinese itself. Well I believe in investing and I buy only when I can retain them, I take calculated risks and have generated some decent returns as well.

I would HIGHLY recommend not investing in this extension.

In my view, this is not a good time to be investing in domains in general. I'm not sure how many publicly traded registrars there are, but I would possibly look into selling short these stocks. Find a way to short the .CO market and the domain market in general and you should make money over the long-term. If you want to go long, look into guns and ammo stocks.

Good luck. IMHO

The problem is with end users unless it is .COM, or at least one of the Big 3 (COM/NET/ORG), you end up having to pitch the extension itself.

LOL....that is so true. Whenever I get my spam emails pitching a domain name similar to one I already have, the first part is explaining the extension and why I need the extension.

This is true. I have sold .co this way but it takes a lot of time and a whole bunch of effort.
