Need to register a customer domain to cover China
What is the better choice - *.cn or *.com.cn ?

Hello,

I rather .cn since it will look shorter and more easy to remember.

I second that.

Short, easy-to-remember, and these days, the shorter the URL the better.

IMHO, if your clients will be mainly mainland Chinese, then go with the extension the locals are accustomed to. Last I checked, that would be *.com.cn.

Thanks
Page will be in Chinese and English at the beginning. Guess both extensions is best

Yes, both would be best to stop your customer losing visitors to the other extension. The cost of a second registration is normally very little when compared to:
a) the cost of professionally developing a website; and
b) the potential loss of traffic

Try to register the both!
.com.cn is a habit in some extent yet I still prefer .cn

Personally I'll prefer .cn, but for companies I think .com.cn is good.

during last week in Beijing I saw both .cn and .com.cn on public billboards, so for a company registration I would register both domain names for cover and use either for the actual website...

Yes i agree! .cn was only just introduced by my understanding.

However in beijing i only saw .cn. But i wouldnt invest on what one guy says he saw while walking around beijing!

.cn! people might forget the '.cn' if its a .com.cn domain and go to the wrong page. so .cn would be safe. lol.

In some chinese registrars and some resellers of large ones. Recently the price drop from 15$ to around 4$

For the short term, get .com.cn.

For the mid-long term, get .cn.

Best thing, get both.
