I advice you go with vbulletin, it has a very good cms system add-on. Plus you get a super forum with it.

Depends on what type of site.

In order of ease for a regular site (blog, minisite, corporate site):

WP
Joomla
Drupal

Based purely on availability of free templates .. though each appear to be relatively simple.

I found DNN to be VERY EASY but simplistic.

Suggesting Vbulletin is bad advice and a Stupid choice for a website if all you need is a CMS.
Expensive and Over-kill.

Joomla! and WordPress.
Much easier to use and FREE to install.

I would agree, Joomla or Wordpress would be good for a newbie starting from scratch.

I have no experience with dotnetnuke, so first look into which cms will help you make the smoothest transition in terms of exporting/importing your existing content.

I think joomla is the most "like" DNN and will likely have the most likely options to transition.

If you have .net support you may consider orchard which I haven't used but is on my evaluation list for the future.

Drupal is the most pure solution imho

Honestly, without knowing your site's size, your goals and the specific features for which you're looking, it's hard to know what to recommend. If you have not before seen it, I recommend you spend some time at Open Source CMS which has a huge repositry of front end and admin demos for nearly every CMS on the market. There is also quite a bit of discussion, ratings and reviews on the various CMS featured, etc.

Great advice, first do research on what is out there. vBulletin is not a smart choice just because of it's price you can get the same power with free options like Joomla and if you want a forum you can tie phpbb with Joomla. All I can recommend is make sure you think about what your site will need back-end wise and see what CMS has plugins to suit your needs.

If you're new to cms's I'd suggest wordpress as it'll let you fiddle and mod far easier than the other offerings.

This is mainly due to the auto updates and auto install plugins so you have no need to use ftp/code if you don't want to.
