I'm after a CMS system that can do the following - if I could build up a shortlist here to look at, that would be great. The requirements from my client are as follows:

- Mulitple admin capability
- File storage
- Tracking of users actions through session (meaning logged in 10:20am logged off 10:45, downloaded xyz.pdf, etc)
- Uploading from interface into a group of folders...similar to a hard drive if you will...admin only
- Admin will control adding files, adding video streams, adding/deleting users
- Would also like an event calendar type area

I think that should cover everything ideally though what we need now is a secure place to store and upload/delete files and have our management teams log in and download current manuals etc. That is the most crucial functionalithy that needs to exist, everything else would just make it a complete interface.

I'm assuming that the main CMS's will have most of these functions, but I've never worked with one before so don't know where to start.

Have you looked into joomla or phpnuke?

Don't go near phpnuke - go with postnuke for what you want. It is far more robust, it doesn't have open security holes like phpnuke and its permission system is second to none. For setting up multiple users like you want with permission levels for access and functionality, there is none better than postnuke for no cost.

We use them all and for what you want postnuke is the best choice. Others will chime in with phpnuke but in our experience - over 25 sites with postnuke - never once have we had a security problem. We most certainly can't say that about our phpnuke sites - and we are anal about keeping sites up to date.

Go to http://www.opensourcecms.com/. They have rating and reviews on over 30 popular CMS programs. Click on Portals (CMS) on the menu.

I think Mambo can also do the job.

Lifetype.net is good enough to do that
