Hi! I have a couple questions about appraisals. Sorry for the newbie questions, but I couldn't find this information.

I put up this domain name a couple days ago and got several responses. Thanks! I am assuming that $XX is under one hundred dollars and $XXX is somewhere between $100 - 999. Am I assuming correctly?

Next question, has anyone used AccurateDomains.com services? I had seen their paid appraisal service rated highly in a publication I had read. Is anyone familiar with them? I had them do an appraisal, and they came up with:


Each category is given a rating of 1-10 with 10 being the best.

Commercial use � 7/10

Brand recognition � 6/10

Length of domain � 7/10

Dot value � 10/10

Minimum Value � $5,200

Maximum Value � $6.650

Below is an explanation of our 4 categories.

1. Commercial Use � What kind of industry can this name be used for? Can this name be built into a commercial web site?
2. Brand Recognition � Is the name easily recognizable? How easy will it be to build brand recognition for this name?
3. Name Length � How long is the name? In nearly every case, a shorter domain name is preferable.
4. Dot Value - What is the ending segment of the name? Does it end in .com, .net, .cc, or a different ending?

Minimum Value is the lowest price the domain should sell for.

Maximum Value is the highest price the domain should sale for.

*Domains may very easily sell for higher than the Maximum Value if two people or companies both want to purchase the domain.

What do you think? I am a bit confused at this point

$x would be $1 to $9 (basically, the registration fee)
$xx would be $10 to $99
$xxx would be $100 to $999
$x,xxx would be $1,000 to $9,999 and so on.

As for appraisal services, I feel they routinely appraise on the high side, as it encourages/excites the person to have their other names appraised as well (more $$ for the appraisor). The high-side of the appraisal is attainable, but only if the right buyer finds you!

On this board, for the most part, the appraisals you'll get are really the wholesale end of it -- what domainers are willing to buy it for. End user appraisals are generally much higher.

For example, I had a domain appraised on a forum like this one for $200, but actually sold it for $12,000 to an end user.

The bottom line is the domain is worth what a buyer wants to pay. Depends on how bad they want it.
