Choosing a great name

I am passionate about domain names.I recently registered some few names,but I'm begining to feel that I av wasted money.Pls what are the tips or clues to follow when choosing a great name? I av flightactivities.com,betterdraw.com,etc. I don't know if they are great? Your help is needed for we newbies to move ahead! Remain blessed!!

You will soon form your own opinion about what a good domain name is.

Here is the most basic question I ask myself when I register a name, or if I am going to continue to keep a name:

Would I Build A Business On This Name?

Run some scenarios in your head that would make those names worth paying more than regfee for.

They aren't bad names, someone may come up with a line of in flight activities, or a gaming site would want to be the place to be the "BetterDraw". However, how long are you going to have to hold those names before this scenario plays out.

From a metrics standpoint... all of that information is online, and you can readily research what makes a name more attractive to potential end users. It's part of the learning curve.

I look at the following criteria:

1. Would I, myself, use this and that name for my business? Would I be willing to pay extra it?

2. Substitution. Substitution. Substitution.

Anyway, substitution kills most names right of the bat, IMO.

I mean all the hundreds of available (either aftermarket or hand reg) alternatives for the buyer for his/her company, product or service. I mean names that can be replaced with another name of equal quality.

If there is a lot of substitution available for hand-reg with the same/similar keywords, then probably not a good buy.

What this all means is, make sure you drink heavily before your domain registrations. There is a separate thread for that. I suggest you read it as well as multiple other popular threads on the forum that should answer many of the questions you have.

that's a great question. I didn't get it either.
