I believe only short and easy-to-remember domain names are sustainable, regardless of where in the world you live and which cultural background you come from.

Now that the Chinese domain market has become a hot topic, I myself want to understand this trend too. Is there any real meaning behind each domain name sold in China? Here, I'd like to share with you what I've found as I read the Chinese news everyday.

GZX.com
GZX can stand for 更自信 (even more self-confident) which can be used in many fields such as education, self-help, and even consumer products to raise your self image.

XLY.com
XLY can stand for 夏令营 (summer camp) or 新领域 (new field) which can be used in recreation and high-tech products.

Hi Kassey,
Without piling on any research work I would appreciate you opinion with a simple good, bad or hold. I recognize that gaming is tightly controlled but pinyin seems to be gaining momentum.

Chinese Domain News Source Date: Jan 28

Double-pin JianKe.com received US 100m funding for mobile medical services
Company name (健客网) and domain name differ slightly where 网('Wang' meaning net) is missing from the domain name. While such convention is quite common, I still think an exact match will eliminate any confusion by consumers regarding the domain name.

3-pin sold to end user, so equivalent LLL .com owner should take note
XunZhiYin.com (寻知音 or seek soulmate) was sold for low 5 figures CNY to an end user with partially matching company name(辽宁寻知音网络科技). Chinese company names tend to be much longer than their domain names. Also, 3-pins are quite popular, with prices around low to mid 5 figures, such as BaiHuaRong.com(白桦茸) and XiaoHuaNao.com(小花猫).

How do company name, domain name, and brand match in this case?
Company name: 西安村游网络公司(8 characters). Domain name: CYW.com (representing 村游网). Brand being promoted: 村游. Many company names start with name of the city where the company is located (西安or Xian in this company name). I think the brand name should always match the domain name.

CYW:村游网>Country (village) travel net

This company likes e
Some companies like to include "e" in their brand/domain names. For example, name of valet parking service eDaibo.com is formed by combining "e" with Daibo (代泊or valet parking). So, "e" is still alive!

JXD.com sold in private sale for mid 6 figures CNY

JXD:金信贷>Golden lending
JXD:经销店>Retail store
JXD:吉祥贷>Lucky lending
JXD:教学店>Educational store
JXD:江西贷>Jiang Xi (a province) lending

Buyer is an investor who likes fast flipping of domain names. Commenting on the market, he thinks it has a cycle, with April/May being the peak of each year. He prefers short .com or .cn for safety reason.

I just regged XiaoHuaNao.com at your mention. Is this a good name in the future?

XiaoHuaNao.com should be XiaoHuaMao.com. XiaoHuaNao.com does not make much sense. It was a typing error. My apology. That's why I don't recommend people acquiring Pinyin domain names unless they understand the Chinese language and can do research in Chinese. Actually, I own NO Pinyin domain names. (Well, my reason is different: the Internet is global and I do not want to limit my market to China only.)

also when it comes to lucky number combinations. but can those numbers be converted into chinese characters as a replacement? as in

1 = 一
2 = 二
3 = 三
4 = 四
5 = 五
6 = 六
7 = 七
8 = 八
9 = 九
0 = 零

so that 八八八.com would effectively be 888.com? ( don't bother guys lol I know what you all are thinking already most of the good number combos are gone already in chinese characters. Is that a good indicator of value? because most chinese character lucky numbers are all taken. Why? can anyone tell me why?

so yea just would like some info direct from a pro on this. Is it desirable to Chinese domain investors? Can it be used in China? do you know of people using these type of domain for their website? or for iinvestment?

I mean if all the good numbers like 2N.com and 3N.com and 4N.com and even 5N.com then why not reg chinese character domains?

Is there any proof perhaps that show that domains will be worth anything now or in the future?

Thankjsfor your help Kassey.

Proz.com (very good) Noted this: They both should have the same significance. However, in real life, it is 8 that plays the game in most cases. 八 is rarely used in a situation in which people would associate it with wealth.

Asker: In this digital timeline I can see how they would work together in a seamless cognitive way.

For example:
ZQQCC:掌钱钱财财>Control money and wealth

So I figured ba88 = 888
Mabye. Another possibility is:
BA88:宝点88>Pieces of gem + 88

what type of Chinese is written on tech crunch , Cantonese or mandrain?!!!
It's written in Mandarin.

Without piling on any research work I would appreciate you opinion with a simple good, bad or hold. I recognize that gaming is tightly controlled but pinyin seems to be gaining momentum.
I don't recommend people investing in Pinyin domain names unless they can do research in Chinese. If you do understand Chinese, you can try my method to confirm that the Pinyin name is in common use by entering it in Baidu and check the result.

Are names any good like XiJinXu.com ?
Same as above. Check the result below and see if it's what you were thinking.

Hello. I was wondering what possible pinyin and then to english can be associated with the acronym KG?
Many possibilities. Examples:
KG:跨国>Multinational
KG:快购>Speedy buying
KG:狂购>Crazy buying
KG:考古>Archaeology
KG:考官>Examiner

I'm not really into IDN .com so I have no advice. Rather, I see great potential in IDN.IDN in China because Chinese consumers remember major brands not in Pinyin but Chinese characters.

Hi Kassey, Ref "Chinese consumers remember major brands not in Pinyin but Chinese characters" That is most interesting. Would you please expand a little, from the mass native speaking public mindset. Are you saying that the character "八" is not cognitively seen as "eight" ? I ask this as it is important in the generic sense of 八8 cognitively conveying the "brand" significant of 88. If children know that "八" = eight then it has great brand potential if not ? then it is not worth pursuing : ) No ambiguity yes they do or no would be most interesting. My regards

I also have 八八八 and 九九九 combo's in .com and .在线 and .中文网 and .中国. plus in all those extensions I have also Chinese IDN's to the left of the dot. are these worth anything now and into the future? I kinda over bought on .中国 but I'm realizing it was a mistake (Or is it?) after reading this article.

http://www.domainsherpa.com/simon-cousins-tldregistry-interview/

Plus checking on 4.cn there's a ton of .中国 for sale with no one bidding at all. so is .中国 domains garbage to the chinese? I bought some thinking it was created by the same people who created .cn. And as I have been informed. Most Chinese users access the internet via mobile and it's a total hassle for them to keep switching from the Chinese character keyboards to the english keyboard just to type in .com. so keeping the entire domain IDN.IDN is the "smart money" from what I'm reading and asking Chinese people. It's wierd though asking Chinese people in the "real world" you get conflicting replies that indicates that buying IDN.IDN is a wrong buy. You ask someone Chinese and they will tell you that they believe that most chinese use .com. never IDN.IDN. This why this whole thing is so confusing.

I think all domainers will want to hear your opinion on this. So please can you advise? I know I have mentioned alot on here. I don't expect you to comment on all of it. But I hope you can.thanks!

plus by the way also?? .在线 and .中文网 and .中国 are way more expensive since I am in the USA about $43 per year. You will need to pay for a registered agent in China to register such Chinese extension domains that's what turns a $5-$15 proposition into a $42 to a $59 one.. Not sure if a Chinese citizen domainer has to pay this say high yearly fees because they do live in China. Maybe the best buyer for a Chinese IDN extension domain will have to be someone living in China? Would like some info on that too Kassey. Thanks.

Real Estate

Any of those that KG could stand for?

ummm Kassey? I tried 八八八 on Baidu and it pulls up 48,000,000 search results hits. What's that all about? lol so...does that mean that 八八八 is mentioned 48,000,000 times on 48 million chinese websites that Baidu spiders for that "keyword" set? when it comes to DATA like this mean the same thing as an english keyword with 48 million search results on Google? or is it different on Baidu?

Tips from News January 30

Aliang (nickname) is a college student but already successful. He owns more than 10,000 domain names and has made 1m CNY in profit when he sold Roseonly.com. His success may come in part from his tenacity and networking ability. Aliang sees 2016 as another good year as more people come into the market thanks to domain events and publicity in 2015.

W at the end of a name is frequently used to mean 网(wang, ie net). For example, FDW.com, sold for 510k CNY, may mean 饭店网(Restaurant net) and 房贷网(Housing loan net). PQW.com, sold for 490k CNY, can stand for 聘请网(Recruitment net) and 票券网(Ticketing net).

Investor 汉铭老张(Han Ming Lao Zhang, nickname) sees things differently. He likes .net so much that he owns many premium names such as bo.net, fn.net, mh.net, and zc.net. He sees .net as an extension of elegance and dignity. .net sounds better than .com and .cn, he said.

Well, it seems I'm not the only one advocating use of 4L to replace 4-pin in some cases for the sake of consumers. The writer of this news says the same thing. 大麦理财(Da Mai Li Cai) knows the importance of domain names, so they protect their brand by owning Damailicai not only in .com but also in cn, .com.cn, and .net. Unfortunately, the writer thinks Damailicai is not easy to remember and can cause typing error easily, and recommends to upgrade to DMLC.com. So, if you own 3L or 4L .com, check to see whether you are a target for upgrade by Chinese companies.

Are the Chinese at all interested in .pro? If not, why not?

I see they're buying .top / .win / .one and other 3 letter ntlds.

Are they even aware there's no nexus requirement for registering .pro?
