Now that the Chinese domain market has become a hot topic, I myself want to understand this trend too. Is there any real meaning behind each domain name sold in China? Here, I'd like to share with you what I've found as I read the Chinese news everyday.

GZX.com
GZX can stand for 更自信 (even more self-confident) which can be used in many fields such as education, self-help, and even consumer products to raise your self image.

XLY.com
XLY can stand for 夏令营 (summer camp) or 新领域 (new field) which can be used in recreation and high-tech products.

What conventions are helpful to create a favorable impression in pricing?

For example, are any of these more or less attractive (disregarding the dollar difference) :

$1000
$999
$998
$995
$988
$950

and what about $4999 - would it be better to go to $5000 to avoid the "4"?

An article in today's domain news has a mention of SCZ.cn which was sold for about 60k+, the going rate for 3I .cn, so maybe you can work out your .biz from there. The article also suggests:

I generally do not prefer i, o, and v because they don't rhyme with many Chinese characters, thus reducing the chance to form a meaningful Chinese phrase. I tried, but could not find anything for your list.

V can work sometimes, when it's placed at the end of a domain name. Now, normally W is the character for "net" or "web" in Chinese. But, I have also read many times in domain news that "v" is also used because it sounds like "wang" (though it's a bit stretched in my opinion). S and V are good. Here are some examples for you.

SJV:手机网>Mobile (phone) network
SJV:设计网>Design network
SJV:世界网>World network
SJV:商机网>Business opportunity network
