Everyone posts there new domain to tell everyone there knew find, they ask others opinion for what there domain is worth.
Bottom Line it's worth what you make it. I sell for a living- people hardly ever buy based on the product they buy based on the person selling it and the persons belief in what they're selling , so I say you think you've got a winner go out there and make some money or your site .Opinions are like *ss holes everyones got one, just my insipid opinion for now.

thread moved frpm "appraisals" to "domain discussions"

Most domains are worthless without development, that much is true. However, there are some domain characteristics that drive value even without development. Some of these are type-in traffic (most important), search engine traffic, domain length, extension, keyword searches, etc. The traffic is obvious, as many people are willing to pay for traffic; the rest just make it easier to built traffic through branding or SEO.

I've said it a thousand times and I'll say it again, a domain name is only worth what the highest bidder/buyer is willing to pay :)

Good answer. I like where your going. It just seems like the market is being flooded with all these garbage extensions and eventually domains will just be like numbers in a phonebook with a million area codes. Maybe the dotcoms will always hold there worth will just have to see I suppose.

Absolutely, you can wait the next ten years, let everyone else secure the best names, and allow the other extensions mature like grapes to champagne. :D Someone recently asked me to sell one of my .CN names because they were thinking of expanding their company into China. I said, ask me again when you finally do. The global Internet economy is maturing, and that naturally makes room for new namespace.

True. But then the question becomes what drives these buyers to bid high on domains? Figure that out, and you'll have a good appraisal model instead of just pulling numbers out of your *ss. :D

I think they're releasing all the extensions too quickly, but that opinion only comes from a biased resseler not a corporation or global corp,

.INFO and .BIZ were the only true GTLDs released in the past 5 years. The new .JOBS and .TRAVEL are STLDs, and subject to tight registration restrictions like .EDU.

Let's be fair. They have no choice, all their life savings is stuck up the O in .COM.

I tend to offer appraisals quite a bit while on the site - and have not yet submitted a Q&A to earn NP$'s for those thoughts, either - and I enjoy doing it! What I've been doing of late, rather than tossing out numbers in all occassions ... is to ask of the thread starter / domain name owner their thoughts and expectations for their posted domain names, IMHO. When I see a domain without any explanation as to its meaning or thoughts for its development and/or resale (particularly to End users), I might ask a brief question or two as to intent, or expectations, or interpreted meaning(s). :gl:
This, for me, elevates the discussion overall ... and helps one to think of WHY folks are registering particular domains in the first place. How can we take our typical Reg. fee domain names to the next level ... parking? traffic? logo? branding? development? SEO?!?
These are the things that go through my head while in the super cool Appraisals Forum!

Just my two sense, of course. :)

Rare domains are worth a lot as people just randomly type stuff in like www.www.com and stuff and thats get lots of traffic!
