I was thinking why do webhost offers really cheap plans. Like tens of GB space and bandwidths for a cheap price a year.

How did they do that? Their sever specs? Overselling? Support?

Certainly, many are enticed by such impressive offers. But does it prove to be good hosting?

Please share your opinion or experience about this.

Thankyou,
JohnT

Overselling for sure, but that's not a bad thing per se, almost everyone does, just to what degree and not out-of-control. Ask around for reviews on that specific host (WebHostingTalk, or other webhosting forums)

For example, godaddy and many big companies have decided to oversell lately (what were they thinking?). I register most of my domains through godaddy, but now mostly with namecheap. Godaddy is more focused on there hosting users rather than the domain users as before it was visaversa.

It's not bad to oversell, as long as you know what your doing.

Thanks,
Camron

I used to use GoDaddy but just couldn't take them any more. I transfered over to Dotster.com and have been much happier. You pay a bit more, but there's no question that, when it comes to hosting, you get what you pay for.

I tend to use hosting-specific companies when it comes to buying hosting. I also do a lot of research to try to find the best deal as well, and to find someone that either doesn't oversell at all, or, if they do, know what they are doing.
Hosts tend to massively oversell to attract people new to the web-hosting world. The human brain works so that the larger the number you see, and the smaller the price, the more it likes it.

i totally agree with freak127 and whizkid. Large companies might offer cheap prices but they might not be able to satisfy every client. Cheap prices will also tend to appeal to newbies. Haha..

I say don't ever worry about price...the more expensive the better imo.

Usually the more expensive hosting does daily backups, have great support, etc.

I think the web hosting companies who offer such cheap plans might be doing it with the help of overselling. It would prove good only when those companies know how much to oversell. About the price well I dont think the more expensive the plans the better the company would be. High price doesn't guarantee quality service.
