Change image color on mouseover

Hey everyone

Can anyone out there point me in the right direction? I am looking for something that will take...lets say a white square and allow you to change the color (green, red blue, etc) simply by setting your pointer over it.

I need something that will work with both IE and FF.

Images? Well, assuming you'll have several colored images:

<img src="white.gif" border="0" alt="" onmouseover="this.src='blue.gif';" />

Something like that should work.
