Hi

So I was wondering what to do if I have a celebrity's full name in a .COM.
example: AdamSandler.com

The celebrity name I have is not nearly as famous as Adam Sandler, but the name is developed in a few other extensions and those sites are owned by the celebrity or the celebrity's agent/manager.

Do I contact the celebrity's manager and see if they want to buy the domain? Or what? How do I go about this?

Thanks

Yes you can but before doing so you must run an investigation first because many celibrities have right over domain name specially when it's full name and wipo will see to whom domain name will be the owner. Also you can be contacted by lawyers and you will have to defend your case or better transfer it free. So becareful.

Celebrity domain names can be very shaky territory. At the very least you should be prepared to put up with some cease and desist letters and potentially even have to defend your ownership of the domain name by spending some money on legal action.

Due to fair use restrictions, the best thing is to grace delete if possible. There is really no future in registering celebrity names that's why many are available.

When they decide they want their name, if it's registered they call their attorney and presto. This is an over simplification but covers the basic reasons to steer clear.

Of course there will always be exceptions, but these are few and far between.

I can't find the reference, but one guy recently tried to sell a female comedian her dotcom name. She responded by suing, and worse, seeking damages!

Stay away from successful entertainers. They're too unpredictable, and have too much free time.

Develop the site and don't put Adsense on it, and hope they come to you. Better yet, don't register it in the first place. The last thing you want to do is approach them though, unless you're giving it to them for free. I wouldn't bother deleting it though, maybe you'll get an autograph or something in exchange for the donation.
