I'm a complete newb to domaining. I've seen that there are many decent one word keywords available in various ccTLDs (ie. .im, .mu etc). Would it be worth it at all to snatch up a few of them? If I could get something like hotels.xx or car.xx or vacations.xx etc. I could put WordPress up, some articles and try to rank and sell it.

I'm guessing it would have to be countries that speak English so I know I have a good quality keyword and not some poor translation of what I think is a good keyword for that foreign country?

Thanks for your thoughts.

ccTLD's except some, lack awareness and effectiveness but with Google not concentrating or prioritising domain extensions i think its just matter of time when one would see ccTLD's ranking high. But again, if a good domain name is registered with any ccTLD and is marketed well with original content, good SEO and title/meta tags than why wont it be worth? - It will be.

However, i think it might take some time and now all of us are waiting for the release of new TLD's so that will be interesting too.

If you think that the names are available and are good and you can make some money then i guess there is no harm in trying, at least some positive would come out of it.

In some countries, cctld's are just as popular if not more so than the .com.

Keep in mind that some are restricted in that there may be presence requirements for you to register them. This subsequently may also make the domains harder to sell, as your potential buying audience would be much more limited.
