The past week was a VERY unusual week one for reported domain sales. The normally dominant .coms were limited to just four entries on our all extension Top 20 Sales Chart, the fewest since we started doing this weekly report over 13 years ago. The ccTLDs pulled off a big upset by piling up 13 of the 20 chart entries including four of the top five. The exception wasn't a .com either - it was a non .com gTLD - #3 Bonus.net at $15,768 via Sedo.
The rest of the first five was made up entirely of German .de domains, including the chart topper, UH.de, at €47,600 ($50,456) and runner-up JC.de at €20,000 ($21,200). Two others - EDU.de and VER.de tied for 4th at €11,900 ($12,614). All four of those .de sales were made by a private investment group that holds a large portfolio of ultra-short .de domains (their sales were shared with me by a group member who is a well-known industry veteran that wishes to remain anonymous). They also sold #18 NEA.de for €6,545 ($6,938).
The German domains were sold at different times through the year but any time qualifying sales from the current year come to light for the first time they are listed the week when they are reported. I also received a list of sizeable, previously unreported sales that the group made from 2010-2015. After I go through those, the ones that are large enough will be added to the ccTLD Top 100 Chart for the year in which each sale was made (those historical charts can be found on our Domain Sales Archive page).
