I have seen the whole buzz for ccc, but I cannot find a basic guide as to the best combinations and TLD's to have them in. Is it any combination? Or will any combo sell, particularly in .com.

I'm assuming you are talking about LLL.coms that are all consonants. Premium letters usually refer to CHiPs(Chinese premium) or Western Premiums and although vowels are excluded, some consonants are more popular than others.

Regarding Western Premiums:
From domainsherpa.com:

"Of the standard 21 consonants, some letters appear more frequently in the English language and are therefore referred to as “premium letters” for domain names. These premium letters include: B, C, D, F, G, H, L, M, N, P, R, S and T. The remaining 8 “non-premium letters” include: J, K, Q, V, W, X, Y and Z."
