Lately i've been trying to make my site (http://me.yarrt.com) more of a personal than a business site.

I've split the navigation into 2 halves (top: General, bottom: Business), and added my favourite Poems, Quotes and Links. I've also added some info about me ("Currently in My Life...") to the index page, made it so that people can post comments, and added some more fields to the About Me page.

Has anyone got any other ideas? I keep thinking it needs something else - just not sure what...

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

This probably isn't the kind of advice your looking for, but I really think the site could use a better structure and some more colour :tu:

I like the colours =P

And what can I improve with the structure?

You may want to change the layout and break into two columns (one main column and another menu column).
Use tables to break the site into different sections.

Actually I much prefer having the navigation bar on the top, and i've placed them like that for ages. Also, tables are not for layout!

Neither is CSS, if by "layout" you ever mean more than one column. Since CSS2 doesn't include column semantics.

Sometimes tables are for layout.

By "layout", I mean the design of a page, colours, the way elements are positioned, etc. And you can do columns with CSS2, just look at some of the articles on alistapart.com. Tables are good for tabular data, not layout.

I'm not sure about the previous posters as I did not read their advice but personally it would greatly help me to help you if I knew the goal you would like to achieve with this site.

Is it going to be a blog/personal site/business site?
What do you want to do with it?
How do you plan on getting visitors?
Do you plan on generating income from it?
