Can I sing?

Ok so I love singing and lately lots of people have been saying wow you have a good voice you should have vocal lessons you could really go somewhere. I have never had a vocal/singing lesson in my life and I would like to hear what you guys honestly think about my voice if you don't mind. I say "honestly" because in real life people don't like hurting others feelings but over internet feel free to knock me down. :hehe:

Both of these are vocals only and only about 45 seconds each (as not to take up too much of your time).

I did musical theatre for about 6 years, so I've got a little experience judging this type of thing. I'd say you have a natural talent to sing just fine, but you're rough around the edges and really could do well with getting vocal lessons. You need to find your range and stay in it, then work your way outward. You sound more "natural" in the first sample than the second, and I think that's because of the range in which you're singing.

If you live anywhere near North Carolina or New York City I can give you some connections for people to talk to about lessons.

I think you sound good, would be nice for you to post more of your voice Phil Collins is pretty easy stuff to sing. Try finding some Boys to Men music.
and give that a try always remember to relax your voice dont force music.
ie. dont scream. so for an online recording I think it sounded pretty good.

PS: put some pep in your step..

from those quick short samples its hard to say but if i had to, i'd say you have an above average singing voice.... to be totally honest it didn't knock my socks off, but it wasnt bad at all. You should probably put a longer sample or a different song up so so we can tell more of your range, etc....I think you probably need lessons like the others are suggesting in order to hone your skill if in fact you want to take it somewhere. Keep practicing and maybe try a few other genres of music so you can find your true weakness and then learn to work with it.

@martinisky: Yes I love singing. Sang my entire life everywhere I could. Still do it now even if I am shopping or on bus I just sing and forget others are around me lol. I have always lacked confidence to take it anywhere because of how I used to let others perspectives of things bother me..

The quality of the voice is nice... but your pitch is all over the map - you seem to start every phrase in a new key and when the song builds it happens more so.

Try singing with tracks - a la karaoke to work on keeping your pitch centered - if you can't tell if you're on or off then sing for friends who will be honest with you.

I'm a semi-pro bass player - voice scholarships paid for my private university degree in music education and I spent a few years teaching choral music and piano at the high school level(US).

You got a really good voice, some parts you sound like you may have forgotten a lyric or stutter a bit, its like an 'eh' sound. Overall though, really good. I think you'd only need a little training, if any. Just keep practicing :D
