I would say start watching places like SEDO for example and see which domains are selling well and have the most bids. Typically your .com is the way to go but sometimes there are exceptions. Also, read the appraisels section here on NP and that will give you an idea on what similar domains might be worth. Then you take that information and start hunting and purchasing domains.
