I need a simple personal blog that I can use to make a small personal site. I don't need anything extravagant -- I just need the ability to makes posts and such but I'm sure other features would be okay. Can anyone recommend me a small blog script? It needs to be PHP and it may use MySQL. Thanks in advance. :)

I second WordPress - after deploying roughly 100-200 WordPress powered sites (for all levels of complexity) it is the defacto standard (pretty much)...

For a reason. It's well coded, it works, it looks good (when paired with a proper theme) and it brings traffic.

Are you looking for alternatives to WP for a specific reason???

I've tinkered with WP and I'm not too familiar with it. I only need a script for small, general blogging -- nothing fancy or powerful. :)

Randy, the basic install procedure for Wordpress is pretty straight forward.

That being said, if you want something simpler, perhaps you could take a look at Blogger.com - it's a service offered by Google. It has a pretty decent (actually, quite impressive) feature set and you can get going very quickly.

If ever you decide to upgrade or migrate to Wordpress, it can be done by importing your Blogger articles fairly easily.

Everyone seems to agree that WP is the way to go. I'm kind of a busy guy but I guess I should give WP a shot. :)

I am happy with Dotclear. WP is widespread but has had several security vulnerabilities. Whatever you choose, make sure your installed versions are up to date.

Take the time to learn how to set it up, It will benefit you in the future. I've run the smallest sites (1 page) on wordpress and it works just great. Learn it, you will benefit in the long run.

Yes you really should.
I think WordPress is the most common blogging platform that a blogger use.
Good luck in working with WP :tu:
