I don’t know why people go with GD, they have some of the highest reg fees and a bad track record (voted worst company of 2020). Sure I use Afternic for wider sales outreach, but never register a domain with GD.
Network Solutions still has 6.5M registrations despite having even higher prices and worst support.

I think most people only own one, or maybe a few domains and don't care that much.

If you are a large portfolio holder, using GoDaddy can make sense if you sell to end users. Most end users have accounts there and it creates less friction on sales.

What registrar can you call 24 hours a day and get a live person within a few minutes?

Most of us don't need to call anyone to buy a name, but for a lot of people, being able to talk someone live makes all the difference.

The sales reps there are great sales people too, and a lot of the sales reported here by Afternic are thanks to GoDaddy sales people.

GoDaddy can get a business up and running in a day online. Not everyone wants to go build their own site using tools or some freelance site.

Pretty much.

For all the shit GoDaddy gets from some domain investors, they must be doing something right. Their market dominance speaks for itself.

auto-renew

ive been stuck with godaddy cuz i was always scared about transfering my domain i thought it wouldnt transfer, or i waited until the very last day and then it would auto renew before i transfered it out. i kept auto renew on because i hated logging in to check my domains. now i try to put the renewal dates on calandars so when it comes close 2-3 months before, i start looking for a transfer option.

i had dozens of domains on godaddy and now i only have a handful and itll be a lot less by the end of the year

F==k Godaddy. Market dominance doesn't mean the best. It means smart marketing. Customer service is hit and miss. Stealth fees cloaked by free trials. Only care about profits not customers. The number one leading bullsh!t appraisal tool that leads newbies down their garden path. Proof is in the pudding..

I ended up having my names at Godaddy from four registrars.

You should try Dynadot. Better, faster, more features, not bloated, cheaper, less errors on their website. 200% recommended. They have won the last 2 years NP best registrar poll easily for a reason. I didn't check the final score but they were beating 2nd place by 100% in votes. That's pretty definite.

And what is even more interesting to see is that this ...

Interesting to see that this ...

And, while GODADDY withholds their customers the TLD .top, they are using ...

godaddy.top
http://godaddy.top

... as forwarder.

... resulted in this ...

DYNADOT tops GODADDY and I am sure GODADDY would love to buy them.
