I definitely recommend alistapart.com when you get to an intermediate level.

For now for layouts, check out glish.com/css

Actually I would recommend that you download a template, open it in FrontPage or Dreamweaver (or you can download Nvu if you don't have the money for FP/DW). Then fiddle around and you'll learn it.

Then again you could just check out w3schools..

Another site with some very interesting articles and topics is www.sitepoint.com - you might only find this useful after mastering the basics. They also have a very active community forum.

James I could help you out. I know how hard it is to learn some of those. If you want to just pm me with what you know currently and maybe a webpage showing some examples of what you know. I can then write some stuff up for you to target exactly what you want to learn.

I know XHTML and CSS + a little PHP & MySQL.

If you read all the www.w3schools.com articles, I don't see how there can be any concept you do not understand. It includes advanced stuff too.
