Hello, i am in the process of buying an ultra premium .ca name and wanted to know how much value they have to people outside of Canada possibly as a reseller. I cant say what the name is but it is definitely a super premium name. Im thinking about buying it but not sure who would buy it except for Canadian companies/resellers. Thanks. Yes i live in Canada as well. Any advice/discussion is welcome.

Being that .ca requires Canadian docs. that is the market. Many others don't require this, requiring docs etc. limits .ca to Canada.

I don't understand why they limit themselves to Canada only as this would be a great extension for California too. Along with .tn would be a killer extension for the state I'm in but I can't reg one.

Is it illegal for residents outside of Canada to own .ca names? I ve seen some usa residents with them.

It's only a matter of time until Cira spots them.
But some of those American owners might be dual citizens and thus qualify for .ca domains. You never know.
As to your question: outside of Canada, .ca has little value for resellers in view of the restrictions.

Anything other than .com usually have an lower value. However, Canada has a high targetted traffics on the internet. So I would think that short dictionary .ca domains should have a good value.

The requirements for buying a domain also include having a Registered TM. So, any country in the world can have a dot ca if they have a Registered TM. Also, a person can be part of a Corporation, which could have an address outside of Canada. Bottom line, is that if CIRA has questions, you better have the correct paperwork. I know of a company that got around it by registering a domain using a Canadian address. Not sure if it was even real. I am not the Police, but when I sell a domain to a company outside of Canada, I make them aware of the Canadian Presence requirements, which are listed on the CIRA website. That is all I can do. Most brokers dont even know these rules, and end up wasting valuable time with cc TLDS. that have Presence Requirements.

I dont know how strong the .ca extension is but if I own a .com and someone else owns the .ca then I see a sale just waiting to happen. I presently have a .ca owner interested in one of my names. This to me means one thing that dot com is the preferred extension among Canadians. I may be wrong. So to put big money on a .ca hoping to resell you have to know the market really well. I personally wouldnt.

.ca is widely used in Canada. American corporations who have the .com advertise in Canada with the .ca.
