Buying a domain name in redemption period!

Hi All,

I need advice on this. I am contacting a domain owner to sell a name in redemption period. How soon can he transfer the name if we decide on the sale price? In other words, how long will it take to pull the name out off the redemption period and transfer it? Or can he transfer when the name's in the redemption period itself?

Thanks

:)

From what I understand, if the expiration date is fewer than 46 days, the owner can transfer it out, but how this is facilitated depends on the registrar. Godaddy seems particularly liberal on this practice--I have lost a few auction "won" domains when the previous owner has either renewed it at a premium or transferred it out.

Registrar has first to reactivate/restore the name (around $80 for a gTLD, but some registrars charge up to $250) then domain should be transferable.

Can't the current owner just renew the domain at reg fee to pull it from redemption? Then transfer it?

Ok this is wierd, expiration date shows as Jun 30'th but the name is in Redemption period? I am confused. Can someone please explain? I thought a domain enters redemption period once its expired. Am I wrong?

Thanks

That is weird. I wonder what happens if a registrant is found to be illegitimate for some reason.

You don't even have to pay redemption fees; just initiate transfer to another registrar--as long as the the domain is within 45 days of expiration.

Happens all the time at Godaddy--much to my chagrin.

Perhaps the owner deleted it from his/her account due to some issue like Trademark or spamming troubles.

I agree with MsDomainer. It's only a guess, but I'd say this is exactly what has happened here. They have deleted the domain from their account, for some reason. They needs to contact support, if they want it re-enabled. Which may or may not cost them money. I did this once (by accident) and my rep was able to recover the domains without charge. I'm not saying it will be the same for them.

Actually you are wrong. What you are talking about is Grace Period during which a domain stays active. Once it hits the RedemptionPeriod you can't transfer it or renew it the easy way.

A registrar can delete a domain at any time: non payment, request by customer, etc...

On InternetBS I renewed one of my domains in redemption period for the normal price.

Which tld?

On my side when my domains enter RedemptionPeriod at Internet.bs I can no longer see them on my Admin panel and I have to submit a reactivation request to the support, and only some ccTLDs cost the same fee as a regular renewal.

It wasn't in redemption, but grace delete.
You need to look at the whois very carefully.
Some registrars use confusing language.
Now it depends on the TLD. For example, some European TLDs can be renewed and reactivated after expiry at no additional charge.
