Yesterday August 12 I had a LLLL.net in my shopping cart at name.com. My credit card did not go through for some reason so the domain stayed in my cart. Today I check out whoIs info on the LLLL.net domain and what a coincidence! On August 12 someone else registered it and now it is parked. On top of that out of the many registrars available this domain was registered at no other than Name LLC...

The WhoIs info is private and reads this:

Expiration Date: 2009-08-12 13:27:20
Creation Date: 2008-08-12 13:27:20

Name Servers:
NS1.NAME.COM
NS2.NAME.COM
NS3.NAME.COM
NS4.NAME.COM

I don't need to explain myself, I know were I stand with REGISTRARS who cheat customers.

Yes, I know. This is very upsetting. I wish I could just transfer all of my domains out of name but I have to wait. The more people that know about this, the more skeptical they will be about where they buy - or even search - for their domains.

It's not Name.com doing this -- speak to Kellie on here if you don't believe me.

It doesn't matter what registrar you go to -- there are plenty of ways to get this information (both legally and illegally) without the registrar's consent.

Why do domainers believe they have a right to any name they search?

A domain name is not owned by a domainer until the domain name is paid for.

Im sorry but i have used Name.com for a LONGGGG time now and have had ZERO problems at all with them. I have checked regs and found them avail and go back days later to reg them. Then sell them for good amounts with in a month. Not saying stuff like this does not happen, i just cant wrap my head around the registar itself buying the names. As reece has stated in his post, "It doesn't matter what registrar you go to -- there are plenty of ways to get this information (both legally and illegally) without the registrar's consent."

This continues to happen, when you decide to shop outside of godaddy and moniker, this has happend to me.. and the owner of the registrar claimed he had nothing to do with it... I wish their was more we could do, to expose registrars who steal and register our searched domains... my credit card was once denied, and the same time, the registrar used someone elses name and registered my domain.. i was so dissapointed and promised to myself, i would never shop outside of GD

This has happened to me at GoDaddy before!!! So - it's not as if it's isolated to certain registrar's as I believe Reece pointed out.

This is a bigger problem that needs to be addressed in a big way.

I've learned my lesson and NEVER will i check names at any of the registrars' for availability. I use other tools for that purpose now.

When i do have my list of names to register - i put them in at GD as a bulk register and reg those suckers as FAST as humanly possible! No hemming and hawing - just straight up reg them. Get them regged!

As you can see "IT DOES NOT MATTER WHAT REGISTAR YOU GO TO". The info can be phished pretty easily from someone.

if it wasn't recently expired it's still a 4l.net, so it's not surprising that someone picked it up. if it was a completely random awonefihosdifoweifowtr.cn then i'd be more worried.

Hi,

I suppose anything is possible but I have registered a couple of hundred domains at Name without experiencing this problem.

For the future:

Trust but Verify.

Check that the domain was registered to you once you check out.

You can check your Control Panel.

The domain would appear there if it was registered.

This is immediate.

Then verify externally.

I like to use iWhoIs.com or Internic.com/whois.html.

If you don't see it was regged right away, you know there's a problem.

I've never experienced any lag time with Name.com.

Domains are regged immediately.

Also know that Name accepts PayPal so you might consider using that
if you are a PayPal member.

There are no extra fees.

You would also receive immediate confirmation of your order.

thats not the point, this members credit card was denied... and so was mine... and my credit card was fine..... but the registrar claimed it was rejected.. and hours later the domain was not available.. even though i registered it.. ! godaddy would email you and ask for payment.. neither parties in this case did... Reece has a point as well, there are experts who access search information and reg up your searches...

but in my case, this was not the case! Registrar was responsible for this! since few other customers from north america also posted warning threads!

Your post doesn't make sense...re "mine" and "registered"

If your credit card was denied...how could the domain name be yours?

how could you have registered it if your credit card was rejected?

Cheers

Care to explain how the registrar was responsible for this, considering they've
not been able to accept your credit card to begin with? No registrar on earth
can guarantee they'll be able to register the domain name for you, more so if
their systems really aren't able to take your payment details.

If you really believe there's a conspiracy going on, unfortunately it's on you to
demonstrate it somehow. Otherwise it's just pure fantasy.

It's also unfortunate what happened. But I guess it's just conveniently easier
to blame the registrar, even though it's not necessarily their fault without all
the relevant facts or details that possibly caused this result.

As some members here said, it can happen anywhere. Just have to have your
belt and suspenders handy, or rather a secondary payment option if possible.

I know it must seem like I'm repeating the same question but..........

Why do domainers believe they have a right to any name they search?

A domain name is not owned by a domainer until the domain name is paid for.

There seems to be a double standard on the internet which doesn't apply in the real world. There are ways to do safe searches, yet many domainers continue to choose unsafe methods.

Sometimes I think some domainers do things the hard way so they have something to complain about afterwards :)

That was my thought too... I would have just checked another $ account or registrar, and tried to register it through the alternate source/payment to cover myself. It is always a good idea to have backup plans.

Oh, some people believe in things that aren't necessarily correct. I've seen a
couple complain of airlines giving "their" purchased seats to others if they do
not show up for their scheduled flights.

I guess it's because they believe their money entitles them to almost anything
around. But...having unrealistic expectations never helped anyone.

Unless it was cars.net instead of something like Qzkt.net, I would say someone else picked it up and your card was denied because of mis entry or something like that.

4L.net, while not my favorite, are being picked over like dead badgers on the road by the buzzards.
