I was wondering, what are all the benefits of having temporary traffic sent to our websites? Does this help increase search engine rankings?

search engine rankings help with traffic, not the other way around.

temporary traffic sent to your websites is basically advertising. if for example you sell hosting, then a lot of namepros members might be interested in that and you can make some sales. i'm not sure if i can break this down any simpler...
