Bulk domain transfer to new registrar

many registrars seem flexible with prices when we transfer say 300-400 domains.

and I'm negotiating with couple of them as we speak.

one of them is actually asking me what's the best offr I have on table so far is.

so I wanted to ask you, what exactly do they pay for my transfer/registration.. and is this a situation where I should be conncerned about not only me saving some moeny versus the say $8 godaddy renewal fee.. bbut also about letting them make couple dollars per domain on me.. or registrars have different apporoach to this, and think more longterm, even if they'd be losing money winning me over at first

The registrars are paying Verisign (the .com registry) $7.85 per name per year plus $.18 per name to ICANN.

Hence any registrars charging less than $8 for a registration or renewal are taking a loss-leader approach.
