Hi everyone

Any thoughts about bulbs.tv?

There seem to be 2 possibilities here.

Lightbulbs etc

or Flowering bulbs.

Do you think this one has any value?

I would suggest grace deleting and trying again. IMO.

Oh, I'm surprised at that.

I bought it because I thought the numbers on google shopping (216,550) and ebay (257,649) were quite high.

I appreciate that the items might not be a very high purchase price, but I thought they were always in demand.

Does Any body else have any experience of selling similar items on the web.

Thanks for all imput so far.

Some of the 'green' light bulbs can get fairly pricey, getting a surfer to click on an affiliate link into an ace hardware online also gets you a commission on anything else they buy there, so it's worth giving it a shot, imo, you never know what a guy will pick up in a hardware store, even if it -is- online.

I know there was a decent merchant selling tulip bulbs called goodbulbs.com, they sold out a while back, though.

I could see a gardening site, diy gardening showing how to create beautiful flower gardens, etc.

Might take a bit of work, but again the domain is short, and has a couple different potential usages.

Nice to see the hardware section of you life is still as strong as ever! The north-west, indeed, the whole of the UK, has a slightly different view of .TV than much of the rest of the world - and I note that the majority of correspondents, so far, have been from the USA.

In the context of your other collection pieces this one is ideal. However, I feel, as a stand-alone, the name would not be the greatest reseller ever on a domain sale front - but could really come up trumps from a development point of view.

Every house in the UK (Stick to the market you know best) is being encouraged to change their light bulbs. Indeed, every UK electricity company is being pushed, legally statuted, environmentally pursuaded, consumer required, AND SUBSIDISED to assist its customers in reducing their carbon emissions.

Some of the three-prong (yes, three prong) low-emission bulbs cost over ยฃ10 each and a govt subsidised, utility sponsored, manufacturer filmed channel dedicated purely to helping each and every electricity customer in the UK get the best from their bulbs would be a wonderful means of pushing forward a low-carbon goal and educating people.

1. Bulbs could be given free from utility companies (indeed, I have four in my draw that were sent just recently from my provider FREE-OF-Charge to get me started).

2. The impact that can be made to the world from a chnage to a better type of bulb coild easily be explored televisually to pass on the message.

3. The aesthetic impact of using the correct type of bulb could be explored to improve the home

4. The cost savings argument could be conveyed very simply in a televisual manner.

5. The hundreds of different types of bulb could be sold like any other successful web-seller shop.

I could go on, but I just wanted to get across that - as a domain - this stinks - but as a concept it really could have legs - if you had the heart and energy to go with it.

Excellent domain.

As a Contractor myself, I have purchased cases of lightbulbs online, MANY times. A house can have 10 bulbs, each and every one different. or a house can have 200 bulbs, can lights in every room along with ceiling fan/light kits - 4 per fan, Bathroom Vanity light-strips - 6 - 8 per fixture, etc.

The mark-up on bulbs is incredible and you an easily create your niche with this domain, along with all of your other hardware/material related domains.

Of course we haven't even started discussing the Government Funded credits for all Commercial Businesses to replace all of the cost hemmoraghing incandescent lightbulbs to more energy efficient fluorescent bulbs here in the U.S.

Very Hot Topic and I am definitely one who can truthfully say I have bought thousands of bulbs online.

Don't forget the visual video-centric aspect of this domain.

Great domain and I hope you make some serious money with it.

Vito.

Wow, thanks so much for those last 3 posts.

I have been getting a bit down in the dumps recently, with all the work ahead of me, i.e selling my house, and setting up all the web sites, merchant accounts etc.

However, your posts are inspiring me to keep at it.

I too thought the domain fits nicely into my portfolio of names and had thought of the new types of bulbs on the market, being a lot more robust for packing in the post etc.

I will keep at it and let you know of any new developments.

By the way, off topic, I did pick up d-iy.com recently.

Not too sure if B & Q will be happy over this, but as far as I know, I am not breaking any laws over this.

Thanks everyone.

You know when I think of a bulb, the first that comes to my mind apart from the regular light bulbs are 'ideas'. Bulb = idea. So if you ever develop your website you could develop it as an idea or invention sort of a video website. Good luck, not a bad name at all IMHO!

That's a good idea Orcus, he could rate new inventions with a lightbulb scale...either 1-5 lightbulbs, or maybe base it on 40 60 100 watt scale... might be kind of fun, and a way to get surfer involvement, let them rate new inventions that people have...plus of course, you could always include a link to where one could purchase the invention.

For example, you can buy a water powered clock at Amazon. Or there are solar powered generators now available for your home, etc... I really like your idea Orcus!

Bulbs seem rather lame to me. But if you can make money on it, more power to you!!! Just let us know how it works out.

And that's an excellent addition Rogue! The 1-5 lightbulbs thing sounds real cool :) I'd say develop this one BJ! :)

Yes, thanks everyone, I will seriously consider all these excellent ideas.

The funny thing is, I had to replace 2 bulbs tonight at my parents house.

Lets hope this is a lucky omen.

Take care all.
