I was reading the .MOBI crashes Sedo thread at DNF, and somebody mentioned OperaMini, so I checked it out.

I'm not sure if I get it clearly, but I think it's a browser that allows you to surf full websites (zoom in and out) on any cell phone, and it compresses the web data (less cost to surf).

You can check how your website will look on OperaMini through this
http://www.operamini.com/demo/

I don't know how much it will affect .mobi, but I can see both pros and cons.

It's a pain to scroll side to side and up and down with operamini.
With .mobi made for mobile websites, it's convenient to browse the page.

Also saw Microsoft DeepFish mentioned at DNF

Is this something new or yesterday's news?

First site I tried was Apple.com

err.... it looks awful...you can hardly see what you are zooming into... when you zoom in it's absolutely dreadful for fast navigation... it would have no great on the go use.... that was just the index page... uuufff

maybe I'll try some more sites tomorrow... but I have to say that after my first experience I was not very happy and so most probably will never use it ever again.

we need to remember the majority of the world aren't getting iphones, or new phones with super duper browsers anytime soon.
for the developed world or people who cannot afford a new phone every quarter, or have very little tech knowledge,(which is the majority of the worlds population) etc list goes on, when they visit a site they want it to load and work. more and more people are coming online on their mobile devices daily
now 'if' mobi owners and everyone else get enough sites out there , maybe , just maybe, the extension will get synonomous with the mobile net. because eventually technology will get here so that pretty much anything is possible, and on cellphones too. so mobis unique 'gift' of compliance and compatability and great viewing experience won't be here forever.
that is obvious for all to see. technology moves too quick now, i think we all agree.
people arent going to stop using coms, co.uk etc though or anything else, a great site is a great site. people will stick to their habits but they take on new stuff everyday too....... we all do
bottom line is the mobile internet is going to be a big pie, a thin slice is good enough, heck even some large crumbs will do :hehe: . its a tld and is here to stay, if you are constantly developing, as i am, you stand a much better chance of success. its a different business model to the established tlds, and im all for it.
the old guys can afford to be lazy, we cant. now less talking and get working!

Funny how so many dismiss it out of hand without even trying it. I just installed it on my old phone - while it didn't work the first time, it did the second. I installed the high memory first, then the low memory and it works great! It's fast and easy to use and almost makes me wish I didn't buy my new LG.

"we need to remember the majority of the world aren't getting iphones, or new phones with super duper browsers anytime soon."

People don't need new phones when they can download this for free!

The phones with touch screens (iPhones or x-phones whatever) will
be a standard very very soon. Everyone will get such a phone and what if
... MTLD will let the .MOBI developed sites to be less stricted regarding the
content ? The current ugly .MOBI sites will not stay for long.
It's obvious that something between PC screen and small ugly phone screen will look better and will be more usefull than a 2kg laptop.
Iphones are on their first step of development , they will be smarter and will look nicer from year to year.
Probably i'm writing the obvious things, but my point is .MOBI sites may have more
and better looking content with iPhones or whatever devices (iPhone alike) with touchscreen.

Maybe instead of larger cellphone screens, we could all wear magnification glasses to read the teenie weenie webpages. Then we could really appreciate the "full content" websites.

Gotta go check if "googlegoggles" is registered. Would there be a TM issue?

Just a second,

Oh darn. Some forward thinking person already beat me to it.

:(

Regards,

Sags

...

Nooo, please don't give them ideas Sags, it only takes a free press release about the coming m.Glasses priced at $500 and we'd have another 'mobi-killer' on our hands.
B-)
