Realtor is trademarked in the US and the NAR doesn't play nice.

especially with geo realtor names!
Besides, .Realtor is about to be released, and they are giving 500,000 away to true Realtors. Grace delete it if you still can. (Didn't see the auction buy part. Too late to grace delete, so just 'delete' it.)

Bummer! Didn't knew that this is a trademarked word!

In any case, I did a little digging and found some results.
As per DNSalePrice there have ALOT of 3-4 figure sales for domains with the word 'Realtor' in them. An example is LosAngelesRealtor for $3,400 at Namejet! Alot more to follow.

Sedo has a list of names with the same keyword

Since this is a Trademarked word, how come people are making a fortune out of it?

Moreover, i don't reside in the US.. Does that mean i don't fall under their jurisdiction?

Just because a domain sold that is TM OR there are a lot listed does not mean that it is selling in the regular. I am sure you will find hundreds of domains that sold nicely with TM words...Those either slipped through the cracks or were bought by the TM owners. In domain circles it is widely known that Realtor is a TM and they WILL take it from you not buy it.

No one is making a fortune off realtor names, do the right thing and get rid of it

I don't think it's about "doing the right thing." It's about holding a name that could become a liability for you. Is it worth that risk?

Just learn and move on, it's as easy as that. It's a classic mistake that all domainers make in the beginning, don't worry.

I guess I look at the moral issues and doing the right thing more than the legal issues

It was just a simple reg FEE. Not a problem just let it expire after a year. Risks such as copyright and trademarks don't even bother dealing with the headaches. Good Luck!

I don't really see any moral issues because there is no way that realtor should be trademarked. Just my opinion.

First of all, I'd like to thank each and everyone of you guys for giving the right advice. I'm just a novice domainer and when I saw this domain with no bids, i snatched it up without 2nd though because all the top 300 US cities and all the state + Realtor .com's were registered.

I was so sure that that was a winner domain and though it'd be no use getting it appraised! Thank god i didn't give into my ego.

I'll let the domain expire next year! Guess that a waste of reg fee for me

Thank you guys. Appreciate the feedback!

That is what I'm thinking to myself! It's the same as having Plumbers or lawyers or doctors being bookmarked! What a stupid decision it was to giving the rights away to this name to someone.

Steve Cook, spokesperson for the NAR, says, "The term Realtor is not to be used generically as it weakens our claim to the trademark and we are under constant attack about that already. Just recently, in order to strengthen our name to the trademark, we are now using the trademarked term throughout our press releases.

This is why they go crazy insisting it be written REALTORSยฎ they know the tm not on the firmest ground. But it's a battle domainers are better off avoiding. Goodluck

Unfortunately, the TM holders and lawyers don't see it that way, I agree, it shouldn't be TM's but it is
