Broker or auction or what?

Hi all,

I own luminance.com which Afternic has appraised at $50k. I listed it on Flippa for a couple of weeks at that price and had some interest (130 views) but no bidders.

The listing has expired, so now I am thinking of listing it on Afternic and using a broker there (they've already offered to take it on if I give them an exclusive for 6 mos.) or listing it on Sedo and seeing if it can be promoted to a Great Domains auction and moved more quickly.

I'd rather sell it sooner than later, so which is likely to be the best course of action?

Or something else altogether?

Many thanks.

I'd give it to an Afternic broker for six months and ask them to put their appraisal where there mouth is.

I was able to get a domain on GreatDomains Auction at Sedo, didn't get any offers. And i wasn't talking 50k, i was talking 200 bucks.
As said above, i'd be shocked if you get anywhere near that price and give it to Afternic.

IMHO it has to go to a broker. Tough name that will sell only in a specific niche...A cosmetic company. The best brokers will know how to get to them.I know in theory it should be a photography company BUT...Just my 2 cents.

You can also act like a broker, send emails to related companies and check if you can do it yourself.

Thanks to all. Your advice is much appreciated. I think I'll sign up with the broker and give it a try.

flippa viewers would never pay $50k for the name and that market is not the place to showcase it.

i'd write my own letter

Yes, well, can't disagree with any of that. But my free time is about zero so I'll go with the broker for now. If that doesn't pan out then I'll write some letters. I tried Flippa, seemed to be gaining in popularity for name sales, and of course the listing fee was a lot less than a broker commission, Live and learn I guess. Anyway, thanks Biggie.

time is not free,

as it costs you to count it, as it passes by and while you anticipate and contemplate the future coming.

if ya think i'm lying, just ask that broker you're planning on spending time with.

the same time that you don't have, spending it talking about their fee, track record and referrals.

still, good luck!

Well, to make a point about time, my Dad is in his 13th year of Alzheimer's and I spend 12 hrs a day caring for him. So, not much free time.

Sometimes it's true that you have no free time.

But I do appreciate your viewpoint.

lol

and we'll know how good of an actor you are, after we read your solicitation.

:)

as there are plenty of examples of wannabees pretending to be brokers, posted in the "crap emails from domainers" thread.

I think the name is good. one word ,dictionary word. i think would easily sell for $x,xxx. Just try to find end users and give it time.
