Brandable Names

Hey what are your thoughts on what makes a Brandable Domain i see alot of people including myself say its brandable but never really read what gives it this description.


I think brandable name is a made up word which has a nice ring to it usually taken from another more well known site and especially Google as this is the king of brandable names as i see
Often the oo sound is used or u not sure why but if you look around this is usually the case, also it brings the letters G, L, F, P into the domain market.
These are just some of the things i reckon makes a brandable name.

Soemthing easy to remember and something with a good ring to it so people will remember the name...

I agree. I think that Travelocity is THE best name out there. A good second is my own: greenfabric.com. What do you think?

On a whim I bought HipityHop.com. It is a made up word with a nice ring to it.
Would anybody say it is brandable or is it just palin silly and wothless?

Don't forget - That they usually are names that haven't been used as anything else either - You can Brand on Well Known Generic Words / terms as well ... But most now a days are based on Made up terms / Words.

Easy to Remember
Easy to Spell / Type
Easy to Pronounce - Even if made up
Just plain Easy - lol ...........

HipityHop sounds nice, but :imho: there is a potential for too many alternative spellings. You may lose traffic to HippityHop, Hipitiehop, etcetera. If you really like the name and want to develop it, I would recommend you buy the possible typos as well.

Brandable is pretty much synonymous with trademarkable (but not always). It needs to be distinguishable from others and generally non-generic.
