Hi everyone.

Does anybody know anything about .com.br domain sales?

To be more specific, I want to know:

  1. is it common to buy/sell domains with this ccTLD?
  2. is there any good place to do that (again, I'm talking about .br domains)?
  3. any potential buyers/sellers around here (or even outside)?
  4. can I check a list of these sales anywhere on the internet?

For now, that's it. Thanks for your atention :)

They are quite restricted, I believe it is for local corporations and the domain should match the company name. So basically it's not a liquid extension.

Actually things are changing in Brazil and the .br extension is beginning a deregulation process.

It's true that right now only local corporations are allowed to register com.br domains. But from May 1st 2008 every Brazilian individual and resident will be allowed to register them.

So things are definitely moving in the right direction there and this should make it a more liquid extension.

.br domains are just for local corporations, but never had to match the company name. Michael's right, that's definitely good news from here! This should cause a big raise in the number of .br registrations.

I tried to look at Sedo, but couldn't even find those sales, how did you find them?

I found them on DNSalePrice, a website which lists previous domain sales.

.br domain registration

In order to register a .com.br domain name, owner must be a company or a person residing in brazil and with local tax number (CNPJ).

As you probably do not have this, you must search for a company that provides "trustee" service, which means that they register the domain to their names only to meet registrar requirments. One company that provides this service is www.marcaria.com

I like Brazil as a market. Obviously having the regulations like CNPJ etc limits the opportunity for non-Brazilian customers.

Brazilian .com.br domain names can't be directly registered by non-brazilian citizens.

We at Domainer.com.br provides registration services for .com.br names, using our representatives in Brazil.

It is a great opportunity to start building your own portfolio of .com.br names, you will be one step ahead when .com.br becomes public with no restrictions.

Your site looks like a message board .....not a registrar.

What makes you think they are going to open it to non Brazilians? I had not heard/read this yet.

Regarding OP question......any more .br sales?

BTW.....I got my CNPJ number even though I'm a U.S. citizen. It's finally official.....I got it ! It took some work....but not too much. B-)

Hi Seabass,

Yes, I'm not a registrar, because there is no official registrars in Brazil, all registration is done directly trhough brazilian registry.

I offer the registration services for people that want to have its .com.br names but aren't brazilian citizens or haven't a registred company in Brazil.

About my website, it is currently under development, I'm creating a blog, an appraisal service and a domain classifieds. I'm not sure if the forum will be included on final website, but it is currently active to keep visitors on it.

Regards .com.br sales (.com.br, because you can't register only a .br name without .com / .tv / etc.) I have some info about small sales, usually less than $1k (USD). Also, a member of my website told me he sold a name for R$70k (about US$30k), but I can't publish domain name because I have no permission. Tip: The domain is very, very good, one dictionary word in portuguese language. If the same domain was a .com only (not .br) and spelled in english, it could be valued at about US$500k~US$1M. As can you see, real sales in Brazil for .com.br names are done in about 10% or less than value of a .com name, the main reason for that is because .com.br names are restrict to general non-brazilian public.

Hope you enjoy your CNPJ. Just inform other people that it is simple to obtain it if you have a company with operations (physical or not) in Brazil, and it envolves declaration of your operations for the IRS of your country (IRS for USA, or equivalent) and Receita Federal (IRS equivalent in Brazil). It is not so simple to individuals to obtain that and will spent some money.

Best regards (and sorry for my bad English).

Hello Alex,

Thanks for the detailed reply. I repped you.

First off, your English is excellent.....so don't worry about that.

Second, I look forward to your updated blog on com.br.......I'm excited to have my CNPJ number now and plan to make a decent push into the extension and would like to see more discussion about the .com.br extension. So far, public conversation is somewhat scarce about the extension it would seem.

Regarding you site, I think you should try and make it more clear that you provide registration services since it looks like a forum, not a place to buy new domains. You may be missing some domain sales.

I've been researching this market for some time now and what strikes me most is just how many domains are already registered.....even though it is not a very liquid market since they are not easily sold. I still want a piece of it though. :)

Please let me know when you do an update to the site, until then I'll read what you have on the site. :)

Hi Seabass,

I have been looking for a partner to promote .com.br names, offering a place for sales, registration, etc. May you have interest on it?

Since the brazilian market is not so liquid it helps people first come (first served), so great oportunities are still available.

Best regards,

Just forgot to mention:

How do you plan to pay for brazilian registrations? The brazilian registry does not accept credit cards nor online transfers, all payment is currently done via a brazilian banking document (called "boleto").

If you need some help, please let me know.

Best regards,

Thanks Alex....... I currently am not interested in getting involved in any projects as my main focus is domains and every time I have gone to work on other websites or ideas I have missed domaining opportunities. I DO appreciate the offer, however.

The bank account has been taken care of. I have a small restaurant on the beach in Bahia I opened for Carnival. Also, a very small textile shop in Goiania. :)

Where do you get most of your domains......hand registrations, or buying from current owners?

If you are not a resident/company in Brasil - You can register .com.br domains at http://www.braslink.com for $50. They use their own CNPJ number.

The site is available in English (click on the US flag).

This is the cheapest I've found after 128 years of searching day and night. ;)

Cheers.

Hi Seabass,

Most of my domains are hand registered, but I have already got a couple of them bought through my own website where people list them for sale.

Good luck with your registrations, if you need anything just contact me.

Just a follow-up question:

Are .com domains popular in Brazil, or do most people prefer to buy/visit com.br sites (I am considering buying a .com which is a keyword in Portuguese)?

Thanks
