I've allways heard of .com. br

Are you buying it as a Brazilian ccTLD? If you are then you may be being taken for a ride.

http://meiobit.pop.com.br/meio-bit/internet/cuidado-com-os-dominios-brcom

http://macmagazine.com.br/blog/2008...os-brcom-trata-se-de-uma-safadeza-das-brabas/

These 2 links above (in Portuguese) basically say that :yell: it's a scam. Aparently it sells for about 7-8 times the price of the .com.br domains.

Here's the explanation of how the scam works; They (CentralNic Ltd from the UK) registered the domain br.com and now are selling sub-domains, saying that this is the latest market trend, and requiring less documentation. As you can imagine you will not have full control of your domain.

br.com is a domain owned by centralnic, who sell *.countrycode.com. AFAIK It's not a 'real' ccTLD.

br.com is not a ccTLD it is a subdomain of www.br.com.

The correct cctld I believe is just simply .br. They might have .com.br too but I have not seen this, only straight .br.

It doesn't mean your domain is worthless... necessarily.. to the right person though.

As you can see your domains are actually sub-domains of the domain .br.com

Brazil.br.com
Carnival.br.com
Flight.br.com
Flights.br.com

Quite easy to get some people off guard. As an example lets look at the domain del.icio.us

It was registered as the domain icio.us and then they created a sub-domain, thus becoming the very well known and creatively named del.icio.us

On the second link they give an example of the domain www.tuppi.br.com which was registered by CentralNic Ltd from the UK and Administered by Network Solutions from the US.

As a matter of curiosity, were those domains fairly expensive?

$40.00 per domain. Good thing you only bought 4 domains. You can still use them , BUT as you can already imagine they could pull the rug from under your feet at any time and then your backside will really hurt. :'(

Perhaps we could put an alert out here at NamePros about this SCAM. :yell:

Try asking for a refund based upon the fact you were mislead?

I see people keep using the word "scam", this is not a scam. You should do more research before registering domains. Sub domains like this are practically worthless.

Obviously not enough, nowhere does it mentioned .br.com being legit, also surely the fact that every single one there ends in .br, not .com would be a dead giveaway?

Look at what Centralnic are selling. Has anyone ever heard of .us.com?

yourname.eu.com - European Union
yourname.us.com - United States
yourname.gb.com - Great Britain
yourname.uk.com - Great Britain
yourname.de.com - Germany
yourname.ru.com - Russia

Check this link; https://www.centralnic.com/names/domains
As you can see CentralNic has a list of about 25 countries including the .la domain which is allocated to Laos, but the registrar site Centralnic claims it to be associated with the city of Los Angeles! :o

What's amazing is how much they are charging for these virtually worthless sub-domains

101domains.com and a number of other registrars are also selling these types of sub-domains. :(

If this is not a scam, then what is the correct term?

Just look to the right of the page you linked.

About Our Domains

CentralNic's domains provide an alternative to the existing Top Level Domains (TLDs) and Country Code Top Level Domains (ccTLDs), allowing the creation of a simultaneously local and global Internet Identity.
The .la one is dodgy but I dont see how you could call these sub domain ones scams. Its not like they are claiming its the ccTLD for the country, they even say its an alternative to the ccTLD.

Find a potential buyer who may be interested in generics, aware of the sub-domain issues.

You could develop niche websites and promote them with proper SEO. Place affiliate links & banners and earn commissions from Traffic you generate.

Again, note that these are all subdomains, and can vanish at anytime when br.com (Central NIC) goes out of business.

All the best! :)
