Hello Mods & Mems,

Another member and I have reg'd bookdonations.org with the intent of sending books to India and starting a school for underprivileged kids there.

We want to set up a non-profit to help support this but have no idea where to start. Anyone with prior experience along these lines please give us some suggestions on the best way to proceed. I have researched this quite a bit already and it goes way deeper than I had imagined and frankly I'm a bit lost.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Peace,
Cyberian

Thanks man, that helps alot. Great info there.

I'm looking for someone that has actually set one up too, some international banking questions as well. Can p/p handle this kind of thing? If grants are available and the qualifications needed to apply... you know simple things..lol

Like I said, lots to this and any help about any part will save much pain on this feeble brain.

Not sure but kodeking and fundraiser might be people to ask here.
And per request, moving to legal forum.

Well you'd start by forming an organisation :) That's usually pretty straight forward, get some people together, pick and name, fill out a form. Where you get that form varies from country. Your bank can tell you what documents you need to open a bank account and point you in the right direction as to where to get them. As for international banking you will probably need to register your organisation in every country you do anything in so that's simply a matter of repeating the above process a few times.

It's really not that complicated, probably simpler than, and certain cheaper than, forming a company.
