I was thinking, why is red the color of new thread icons, and blue for old?

Red is generally a negative color, used when something is turned off. Blue or green colors are more often used for specifying new activity, or "on" in a sense.

Just my 2 cents, but I think the colors should be switched. Blue is a much more cheery color and when there is a lot of new activity on the board it would look better to see lots of blue instead of lots of red.

there must be a story behind it...but my thought:

red catches the eye better then blue and when you see red, theres usually something important about it being red

(red light on streets, stop signs, new virus)
red = something you should pay attention too

Red = "Alert", "Hot"
Blue = "Passive", "Cool"

Nice job on making your ^ 222nd post ninedobber. ;)

I don't mind the colors, I was just confused at first and figured I would comment. :)

Although the traffic light argument won't work because there's no blue on it. Red means stop though, if you want to relate it that way. :laugh:
