Blocking Countries

How many of you guys block certain countries from sign ups. I have been receiving a lot of abuse from two countries and i am considering blocking them altogether. I just don't see it fair to the people who aren't abusing my services from those countries. However, those countries are not in my target market.

I used to run Work At Home website a few years ago. 95% of cheating on the website was done by members from two countries (China & Turkey) .. I did my best to fight it just for the reason you said. "I just don't see it fair to the people who aren't abusing my services from those countries". In the end I had to block these countries because checking and cleaning the website was taking forever everyday.

PS: No offense to any NP members from China or Turkey.

Ironically, thats where the trouble traffic is coming from.

Just for preventing a smart pricing issue Im accepting only a few countries for one of my site. Im blocking hundred of countries. These traffic is redirected to another site and shows another advertising network. This is another case apart from fraudulent activity.

You can try this: block a country, block by ip address, deny access by country

sdsinc. I have seen that before.. Im going to try to do it through SQL. I really hate depending on .htaccess files.

Some markets needs to block countries, for example proxies, you will find a lot of proxies will block a majority of asian countries. the best way is to use GeoIP.

I did it.. today i wrote a script based on the Ip2Location database. I am block the following countries from my services due to continous abuse. If anyone from these countries emails me with an explaination of they will be hosting I will host them.

Veitnam
Afghanistan
Uzbeckistan
Iraq
Iran
Somolia
Algeria
Indonesia
Turkey

Good list, Ray. I would also ad Romania. I used to get a lot of fraud transactions from that shithole.

LOL Ray, I'm from Indonesia, and I'm not denying that there are quite a number of scammers in my country. But perhaps you should try not to block all of us altogether - perhaps you can just filter us better
