One of the largest ever cryptocurrency domain name acquisitions was announced during Consensus 2018, the 4th annual blockchain technology summit sponsored by CoinDesk. A group of investors has purchased the Block-chain.com domain for $1 million (111 BTC), which makes this the third most expensive cryptocurrency domain name acquisition ever.

Prior to this transaction, the most expensive blockchain domain names sold were btc.com (sold for $1.1 million as early as 2014) and eth.com (sold for $2 million in October 2017). I read a group of Bitcoin investors put the money together in BTC. They did not care so much of cost or cared of what a domain value was, age etc. It is one of those transactions, they want it they get it. Domaining in Crypto is supply and demand.

A group of investors not knowing or caring about the value of an asset they're planning to acquire? Makes no sense. They are not investors in that case.

This domain would have been readily available at an inflated end user price of around $50k imo. So 1 mil? Nope, I don't believe it.

If I'm proven wrong I'll be astounded.

Anyone who believes this is a genuine sale is nuts. No sane end user with an ounce of common sense is paying 1 million for this domain name when superior names like TheBlockchain.com are still publicly listed for sale.

It is a PR stunt or some dirty business.
