I'm thinking of a shopping portal.. better to reg a .BIZ or .US if that's all that's available?

.BIZ, unless the products advertised are for U.S. customers only

If the domain is nice, get both.

.us if you're going to target US market only.

.us if you're targeting US customers, .ccTLD if you're targeting another nation's consumers, change the name and get a .com if it's international.

I (whether rightly or wrongly) associate .biz with spammers so would be very wary of buying anything off of a .biz site.

I say there is no question whatsoever....us. .biz is a dying extension IMO, and is not known by virtually anyone outside of the domain industry. .us is not well known either, however a lot of Corporate America are beginning to promote the extension with their brands, and I can really see it taking off in the future.

.US would be better, .biz isn't popular at all, many people dont even know about it.

Hm.. still undecided.. I've never owned a BIZ, but I think .US kinda limits it IMO.. ah well, I'll sleep on it!

Thanks all!

.biz if it's international but .us for U.S. only access. .biz much more generic.

I am not so sure that .biz is dead. I have seen many small to medium businesses here in the midwest advertising their name under .biz. The two that come to mind are a towing company and a larger company that sells huge billboard ads up and down Hwy 70 in Missouri. I haven't seen any small bussinesses with a .us yet. Only the larger corporations.

Both extensions are of course quite viable in the US. For a shopping portal, .biz is excellent and as stated in use by a good many small businesses. I see them advertised on Google/Yahoo/MSN for loans, real estate, legal, etc. If launching a shopping portal, I would get both extensions without hesitation.

Personally, I would pick up the .US.

I would agree that .BIZ is not necessarily "dying", but in the long term I can see .US vastly overtaking it, though I would consider .US to have already over-taking .BIZ in many respects already.

However, considering it's a shopping portal, the .US would possibly limit you so the .BIZ may be a better option.

The only thing I can think of doing is picking up both, I can't decide between the two! :td:

If you have a site that is targeted towards consumers, especially for shopping, it makes sense to go with the extension that has the most potential of gaining exposure to your target market. .biz is generally used by small businesses as others have stated, and .us is becoming more and more popular amongst corporations... So at the end of the day, which business group do you think has the most potential to strengthen consumer awareness for the respective extensions? Small businesses with their limited resources and localized markets, or corporations with large advertising budgets and national markets?

.biz has gone the way of the get-rich-quick, work-at-home, internet-tool-box-sold-on-TV-by-Al-Borland home business market IMO. .US has credibility, and if hundreds of millions of people aren't a large enough demographic audience for you, then go with a .com :)

Problem of .US is that it will never be useful outside of the States. Here in Europe, internet rookies will never ever type the extention, and many won't even know it exists. .US is a country extention, and even if that country is the United States, it won't be useful outside of that particular country.

.BIZ ... I am not sure, but I am sceptic. The way it's written gives a bit of a feeling that it is not very seriously intended.

But as they are cheap, why not just buying both?

In general i'd use biz for worldwide and us for USA. I have one site where i've been branding the .us as an abbreviation for "User Support". Maybe you could try branding along those lines e.g. "Universal Shopper", or whatever. Let us know which way you go.

All other ext. were taken for this domain, except BIZ in the singular, and several were available in the plural..

I decided to go with the biz and will post my choice shortly. Thanks all!

I'd take .us anyday over .biz. How many developed sites can you think of that have a .biz extension?

Better to use .com, though you might not have the good key word.

.biz is not doing good
.us may is limitted and will take many years to be known outside of domainers.

Fonzie, you need to do more research because your view is strangely out of focus. Below is a link to many developed sites in the .biz space.

You will see one quality .biz website after the other covering a huge range of products and services.

.BIZ websites

I think .biz is more fit for business and also GTLDS.
Even .us got more good price sale now, I will take .biz name first.

Good Luck!
