maybe our attitudes towards the generic non .com extensions needs to be kept under constant review (+ that includes me! guilty as charged!)
I'm getting some huge traffic on generic single word .com.ve domains, (some Spanish/some English), and the funny thing is that on many, more traffic is coming from N. America/Europe/Asia than Latin America!!!
A perfect example is my Whisky.com.ve that I only parked at NameDrive a week ago and is getting 50+ views a day and only 12% from Latin America.
I think many domainers forget the power of a great single word generic domain on an obscure CCtld or non .com extension when it comes to development.
I just looked at the google results for
"Whisky" and
Whisky.com.uy came in the third result!!!
No sign of Whisky.com on the third page even though it is a developed site.
Another good example is "Cement". Cement.ca has been above Cement.com on Google and MSN search results regardless of which country version you use of Google or MSN.
So the question is why are single word/generic/non-.com's not fetching the Hot Dollars?
Developed correctly they have an equal chance in many cases of appearing above their .com counterparts on search engine results.
I own many .co/.com.ve domains such as 'Men', 'Shop/s', 'Tickets'. One would think it better to spend money and develop the generic single word domain regardless of its .com/cctld than a two word .com?
