Bing is up...

Just went to do a "Live/MSN" search and found that Bing is now live (no pun intended).
Only played with it for a minute or two, but found a couple of my sites in no1 spot. Cool.
Results display looks nice and clean, way better than Cuil for example.
Or has it been up for a while, and I'm late to the party...?

but bing.com is not resolving for me...

I only found it through a Live search bookmark.
Will be interesting to see how it develops...

Live is a better domain, IMO. Unfortunately, MSN decided to brand it as "live" (as in "Live television") instead of the other pronunciation "live" (as in "some cavemen live in caves"). I think this was the first fatal flaw on MSN's part... and now.. BING.. HA!

Bing.. like Bing Crosby? However, to MSN's credit, it's a very nice search engine. I'm going to test drive it for another week and see what happens, I may actually switch since I'm tired of google forcing its moral imperative on me by failing to remember the "do not moderate my search results" option.

Looks really good actually :)

Can't stand that it says "Beta" in the header, though - it's almost a fashion thing (started by Google) to start a project, chuck "Beta" in the heading and leave it at that.

Anywhoo, it looks pretty good; will be interesting to see how it plays out.

Similar search results, different name

I find the results no different than the LIVE/MSN search.

Results are total crap. I am all over the engines in Google for my stuff and when it comes to BING, I am not even on the first page. I love the layout though. They seriously need to improve their engines and get the heck away from Meta Tags LIKE GOOGLE.
okay, I'm done.

It looks good, I just wrote a post about it on teendomainer.com, when you search for a product it looks great and travel looks good. But I will still be using google for my searches. I can't wait to see how my sites get indexed.

Interesting. I am on the front page for any key word associated with my title (e.g. Best Links, TV Links, Movie Links, Game Links), but on the fourth page for Free Links.

It appears that the engine, at this time, is putting emphasis on the combination of domain name, permalink of page, longevity, and the title. Not too dissimilar from Google, but does not have Google's refinement, since Google seems to have a lot more information about actual usage.

This should be interesting since my Domain seems to be much more valuable on the Bing engine than the Google, but I am sure refinements are in the works.

I still think google is easier to type in..

And I don't like this new engine, it's too heavy.

I commend them wanting to add so many pictures and features, but I just really don't care what those places look like. Far too complicated, I don't think Bing will be a big player.

I think Microsoft is taking a reasonable approach. They decided that they cannot beat Google as a general search engine. So they decided that they would try to do better in individual niches, hoping to capture some advertising dollars by attracting users within specific, high volume categories. I think this is a fair approach. The question is whether users will switch from their general engine (Google) just to do specific searches with categories (e.g. travel within Bing). I think this is a giant question mark. It would require a pretty substantial behavioral changes among Google and Yahoo users.

Hmmm, my primary site is #1 for the primary keyword, that makes me breathe a little easier for now.

The thing about Microsoft - and this goes back into the age of Quattro, Lotus, Visicalc, etc., is that they don't really aim for the #2 spot in anything that they do.

This is the first knock on the door, a "hiya" that's not going to go away anytime soon: it will be interesting to see what steps they have lined up already for the next year!

I lost count at how many times Microsoft said they would have a

plowing through to the future ... their wave product has serious

search implications.

It looks to me like Microsoft is going the route of divide and conquer. That is, to try to turn the search engine market into a more vertical market as opposed to a general market. It may work over time. But it does require a massive reworking of user search engine behavior.

I don't think Microsoft is emphasizing a "killer search engine" this time around. From what I can tell, they are emphasizing their ability to do better in specific categories. I think this is quite a clever approach, since I don't think they have a chance in heck to build a better general search engine now, or anytime in the future. The technological moat that Google has built - the combination of Google Analytics, Toolbar, Adsense, and Adwords is just to huge. So MS, has taken a completely different vertical divide and conquer approach. A long shot, but it may work.

Maybe I am missing something, but as this is brand new, would it not be better for you guys, with developed websites to try and get some traffic going through bing?If you guys can get a good start you will be page 1 on bing for a long time = your domain is worth alot more.

Just think about it :kickass:

I remember when NBC bought Snap.com and our CEO told us that Snap.com would become the dominant search engine and that we had to get our deal finalized with Snap (at all costs).

I'm 10 years removed from believing Hype. MSN has had a search engine for yours. They need to prove it to me.

Wow, I was expecting something truly amazing.
To be quite honest, I'm not impressed at all.
For an entity such as Microsoft, with the financial backing that they have, I expected quite a bit more.
To me it looks like a personal homepage rather than a search engine.
The First letter is capitalized in the title, but not the logo. Not a big deal, but for continuity purposes, they should be the same.

I like the video search feature. (You are able to preview the video without actually clicking on it.) Simply hover your curser over it and it plays.

The image setup is quite interesting though.

They provide a ton of search options. Perhaps too many. It's almost as if they spent millions of dollars to have people search and categorize each image. I feel there are too many options...for a search engine. Overkill.

In my opinion, they should have developed bing.com as an image and video search engine and do a little work on Live.com rather than pump millions and millions of dollars into another search engine that won't get the respect that it deserves.

Just checked it out, nothing special :/ I use search engines to quickly get to places and find info, not to stay on the same page.
