Seriously, it's a good cause and a great marketing stunt. There are other charities which buy Pyrethrin treated (insecticide which kills mosquitos but is safe for humans) bed nets for families in afflicted areas. The nets prevent illness by keeping mosquitos away at night when they are most active - they cost something like $10 and are effective for years, but many of these families are living on the equivalent of $1/day (or less!) and can't afford them.

The Bill Gates Foundation recently gave $630 Million to help try and eradicate Polio. Now he is after Malaria. That's really impressive.
