I've been feeling withdrawls from the loss of the overture bid tool for some months now. I noticed today that there is an API for yahoo/overture data, as well as one for google. I've spent a few hours reading and it seems it is a programming interface to allow someone to directly access search engine databases for use in their ad campaigns... (at least thats how I understood it) I can handle some real basic PHP script but I barely grasp the concept of what an API is, let alone how to use one. Can someone here tell me if its possible to use the API and code a replacement for the overture bid tool?
I don't plan to build a website to allow end users the data. I also don't need to mine hundreds of thousands of keywords. Maybe a few hundred queries a month at most. I'm pretty sure this would be ok as per the terms of the api license. (haven't read it thouroughly) I'm just not sure the data that I'm after is accessible even if I get a license and write a script to get at it. What I'm after is the ability to put in a keyword, and find out who the top few bidders are on that keyword and how much their max bid is. It doesn't even need to be real time data.
Is this possible?
I'm sure I can learn to write the script if needed, but I don't want to spend weeks on a futile effort.
