Better to sell at Afternic or DomainTools auction?

Hi all,

I have a nice name - Segues(.)com - that I've been planning to list at the DomainTools auction. (It got a rating of 728, so there's a fair chance it would qualify for the live auction.)

A few days ago, I added about 600 domains to my Afternic listings, including that one. Today, somebody made 7(!) offers on it, topping out above $2K.

(My expected sale price was low-mid $xxxx.)

Question: Do you think I should put it in the "Closing Soon" listing at Afternic, and hope that it is bid up higher in the next week or so? Or do you think my chances of a high-priced sale are better at the DomainTools gathering? Which venue do you think would attract a larger / better-spending audience?

Related questions: Is there any type of buyer-rating system at Afternic, so I can check this guy out? And apart from maybe being slow, is the escrow system at Afternic trustworthy? (I.e., I will absolutely get my money?)

Thanks,
Dave

P.S. Domain is PR3, a former dating/personals site, and has been continuously reg'd since 1998. In its first 17 days of parking, it has averaged about 20 uniques/day and made $13.36; that's nice, but the value is more in the name than in the traffic.

Dave,

Congrats on the offers and the high ranking from Domain Tools...Afternic escrow is very sound...I've sold two names through them. It takes one to two weeks for the process to go through if you have a responsible buyer.

My gut reaction would be to take the $2,000 plus if you can. Your name might have a decent chance to go higher at the auction, but there's no guarantee that it will make the auction, either.

Good luck!

What do you mean a score of 728? From who? Sorry, just wondering.

Thanks for the advice; I've decided to do that. Will put up a link in the "external auctions" forum.

That's an automated score from DomainTools, to help them figure out which domains to accept into their upcoming auction. See this thread.

Afternic absolutely solid and trustworthy. Also, I've never had a buyer renegue (segue.. renegue) :) on a purchase at Afternic. It can take up to a couple of weeks to get the transfer complete and get your money, but this is still, on average, much faster than Sedo.

Thanks, Stu!

I'm not sure why it took me so long to get my domains onto Afternic ... they've been at Sedo for a long time, but now I'm trying to double my pleasure. ;)

(Been an interesting day. A drop that I reg'd a few days ago and put on Sedo today has gotten 156 uniques so far [but no clicks]. Turns out it was some sort of fan site for a Japanese pop group. Time to figure out how to capitalize on this deluge of traffic ....)
