Could you clarify? Are GoDaddy not going bust now? Are you being serious about attempting to get lower prices so you can move them to GD?
eNom ranks highest in my book. Not the cheapest registrars but all in all the best. Head and shoulders above the rest. I belive that if Paul Stahura had focused more on the retail side and not so much on developing the reseller side eNom would be in the #1 spot right now. But in this game #2 isnt bad.
I dont move anything to GD, only out. And I dont recomend that any reg new names there, but I have to be honest in saying that names regd there do have a bit higher value than some random, seldom heard of, registrar.
I was hearing a lot of negative financial info about GD back then, not so much right now but then again I havnt been paying too close attention (since I'm actually liquidating large chunks of portfolio and planning on retiring). For all I know they could be knocking on deaths door, ready to fold any second. Just how long can they sustain 60 million loss leaders in hopes of making it up on hosting?
Maybe I just hope they go bankrupt since I'm still way po'd at Parsons for his .tv tantrum and the damage it caused to all of us who invested in .tv. Domain investors purchased names from his auction site in good faith for a long time and then suddenly he tells the world that those are essentially worthless. He knows its BS too, he was just having a tiff with Verisign and we got caught in the crossfire. Its something he should own up to, apologize for and find someway to make amends. Until he does he nothing but s*** in my book. A very small man with a very big mouth and a proven danger to the small domainer.
That said as a practical matter they still rank higher as a registrar than most, at least in terms of dealing with bs. They play games there like almost everywhere but I'm familiar with them and have learned how to deal with it. Its easy to move names out of GD, even if I have to wait 60 days (something I consider too, will I have to spend another years renewal there or will I be able to move it out before I have to drop Parsons more coin.)
Of course it all depends on the name. A great name going for a great price it isnt going to worry me too much where its at as long as its a bona fide registrar. I've moved names out namecheap and name.com before so I know its possible. But if its a marginal name then where its registered could make a 20, 50, 100 dollar difference, or even the difference between my having any interest at all. Sometimes the potential bother just isnt worth it.
